Big things are coming to Pokemon Go – both figuratively, and literally. With a tease from Niantic and some recently revealed in-game assets added in the latest update, all evidence points towards Pokemon Sword & Shield’s Dynamax and Gigantamax battles heading into the hit mobile title.

While these behemoth battles feel inevitable, some fans are also discovering new quirks in Pokemon Go, as the last update has seemingly pushed a couple of things players aren’t meant to see.

After a new update for Pokemon Go, some fans posted online reporting they had a mysterious item appearing when they opened the game, with no apparent function.

The new item was shared in a post on Reddit, with the comment, “What’s the point of this in the new update?” It seems that many players had this new item appear with no explanation, with a few even reporting glitches or crashes alongside this mysterious addition.

Comments assumed it was something to do with the imminent Dynamax features coming to Go, as one person notes, “I think it’s for the place holders for Gigantimax and Dynamax” while another added, “I bet it’s for Dynamaxing.”

Off the back of the item’s seemingly mistaken addition, users reported problems with the game shortly after its appearance. A player described an issue saying they “got it and it popped up like 3x” so they thought it could be a “glitch or bug”.

Not everyone believed it had something to do with Dynamax, however, as some instead thought it could be tied to the Pokemon Go Adventure Week Taken Over event. “It’s a place keeper probably. It’s happened many times before. It’s probably going to be a part of the Rocket takeover Friday” said one comment.

Presently, there hasn’t been an official confirmation on what the item could be, or if it was meant to be in the game. We’ll report with more information when it becomes available.
