Pokemon fans are flooding social media with their excitement, thanks to the announcement of Pokemon Legends Z-A, which will bring the franchise back to the Kalos region.

Pokemon fans didn’t know what to expect going into the 2024 Pokemon Presents event, as there were no leaks beforehand. As such, many expected a bunch of mobile game announcements and something related to the card game, but anything else was pure speculation.

The three main candidates for announcements were Pokemon Black & White remakes, new Let’s Go games set in the Johto region, a new Legends game in Unova or Johto, or the reveal of the Gen 10 Pokemon games.

It turns out that the Pokemon Presents was mostly what fans expected, except for a huge final reveal, which promised a return to a beloved region, one that no one saw coming.

Pokemon fans are excited for Pokemon Legends Z-A

The 2024 Pokemon Presents closed out with an announcement for Pokemon Legends Z-A, a Legends game set in Lumiose City in the Kalos region. Fans quickly rushed to the Pokemon Reddit to express their disbelief and gratitude at the revival of the Gen 6 region.

“I WAS HYPED AND GOT GOOSEBUMPS!! THIS IS GONNA SHEDLIGHT ON THE AZ STORY AT LAST?!?!” one user exclaimed, while another said, “Game Freak has just decided to absolutely subvert expectations. I am excited to see what it looks like though because Pokemon Legends: Arceus was one of my favorite games!”

“THE POKEMON Z, THE POKEMON Z IS REAL!” another fan wrote, while a different fan said, “So an open world Kalos game, set in the modern era, expanding on lore of X/Y and MEGA EVOLUTIONS! I was expecting B/W or a Let’s Go Johto, but none of the “leakers” said anything about this s–t.”

“This is so exciting! Kalos was one of my favorite regions even though it was one of the least developed,” one user wrote, “It’s neat that they’re going to the development of Lumios as opposed to the 3000 years ago lore of the Great War that we all thought a Kalos Legends game would be.”

“Also that they’re calling it Legends Z as a “We know we didn’t give y’all Z so here”. AND it’s 2025 so it won’t be super rushed (hopefully). So excited for this!”

There’s no denying that Pokemon X & Y had many unanswered mysteries, with fans speculating that a scrapped Pokemon Z was meant to finish the story. Fans have also been upset about the removal of Mega Evolutions from the mainline games.

Pokemon Legends Z-A has the chance to complete the story of the Kalos region, one with the potential to bring closure to plots set up on the Nintendo 3DS, as well as bring Mega Evolution back in all of its glory.
