Leak reveals moves that have been removed from Pokemon Sword and Shield
Leaks are revealing a lot of details about Pokemon Sword and Shield ahead of its release. Dataminers have now shared a list of removed moves which contain some notable omissions.
No more Z-Moves
144 moves have been removed in total, although around half of these are Z-Moves which had already been confirmed. For those who don’t know Z-Moves were introduced in Gen 7 for Pokemon Sun and Moon.
The moves themselves combine a trainer and Pokemon’s wishes to unleash an extra powerful attack. Given the new focus on Dynamax and Gigantamaxing, their removal isn’t exactly a surprise.
The list of removed moves was leaked by Kaphotics who said: “If you thought Dexit was bad, wait ’til you hear about what’s happening to some moves… ‘This move can’t be used. It’s recommended that this move is forgotten. Once forgotten, this move can’t be remembered'”.

According to one Redditor this is the message the game will display when you try to transfer a Pokemon from Pokemon Home that has one of these deleted moves. Some trainers are jokingly referring to the news as Mexit, a play on the now known Dexit which refers to the National Pokedex removal.
Hidden Power and Return removed
The notable omissions from the Pokemon Sword and Shield move list include Return/Frustration, Pursuit and Hidden Power.
The removal of Hidden Power is proving to be particularly divisive. Twitter user Sayvion shared their opinion on it: “I feel like they removed Hidden Power because it’s tied to an arcahic mechanic and GF has been wanting to more so streamline competitive with this game. Does it suck? Yes, but I understand the decision.”

Another trainer appears more than happy it has been removed, though: “Yay! No more surprise hidden power to stupidly easily take out one of your Pokemon.”

The main removals were summed up by Twitter user Greg Baxendale: “The loss of Pursuit and Hidden Power is huge. Psychic-types don’t have to fear Tyranitar as much any more, and without HP Fire, Ferrothorn is going to run roughshod on the Metagame. You’ll have to run a Fire-type, maybe even two, to have a shot at beating it.”
