The Pokemon Go Global Sinnoh Tours Special Research quest gives players a choice between Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup—but what’s the difference? And which one should you pick? Let’s find out.

Pokemon Go’s Sinnoh Tour Global event is almost here, and trainers can catch many strong Generation 4 Pokemon and earn great rewards by participating.

As well as choosing between the Diamond or Pearl badge paths, trainers who take on the It’s About Time and Space Special Research quest must choose which starter they want to go along with.

Your decision between Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup will have an impact on the event-exclusive Special Research quest, as will the badge path chosen. So, let’s break down the differences between each branch to help you decide which to choose.

Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup differences in Pokemon Go’s Sinnoh Tour Special Research

The main difference between Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup during the It’s About Time and Space Special Research quest is that the starter Pokemon you choose will be involved in the tasks and rewards.

For example, if you choose Turtwig, you’ll earn a Turtwig Candy and a Shadow Turtwig. The same applies to Chimchar and Piplup, but you’ll get their Candy instead. This only extends to Step 1 of the 4 total steps.

The other big difference comes down to which badge path you choose.

Choosing either the Diamond or Pearl badge will change some big things with the Sinnoh Global Tour event overall, but it will also affect this Special Research quest.

Mainly, trainers will get different encounters based on the badge path chosen during the later tasks.

If you choose the Diamond badge path, you can encounter Shadow Scizor and Shadow Honchkrow. However, if you choose the Pearl badge path, you will encounter Shadow Pinsir and Shadow Mismagius.

You will also receive Dialga Candy through the Diamond path, or Palkia Candy through the Pearl path.

Should you choose Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup in Pokemon Go’s Sinnoh Tour?

The choice between the three Generation 4 Starters ultimately comes down to personal preference as the decision only affects Step 1’s tasks and rewards.

As you will still get some great encounters and rewards no matter which Starter you choose, we recommend simply picking your favorite.

The biggest decision to make during the Pokemon Go Sinnoh Tour event is whether you go down the Diamond or Pearl badge path, as that can impact the Legendary Pokemon you’ll be able to encounter as well as the Adventure Effect you earn.
