Unlucky Pokemon Go player grinds whole year for sub-par shiny Jirachi
NianticPokemon Go’s Masterwork Research sets guarantee players a Mythical shiny Pokemon. But after schlepping through a full year of quests, some players find themselves disappointed with the results.
Mastework Research sets are a paid feature in Pokemon Go giving players a guaranteed chance to earn Mythical shinies. Considering it’s impossible to catch Mythical Pokemon in the wild, these powerful ‘mons are only available through Special Research quests.
With a shiny Mythical in the bag after playing through the research path, plenty of players see the Masterwork Research sets as worth the real-world cash. At least, in theory.
Wish Granted was the third Masterwork Research set made available in Pokemon Go. It dropped early in 2023, promising players a Mythical shiny Jirachi after slogging through the lengthy set of Special Research quests over the course of the year.
After grinding hard for a year, one player shared their frustrating results on Reddit.
“Worked on the research for a year, only to be greeted by these stats.” The comment captioned a picture of a 2-star, shiny Jirachi, their final reward from the Wish Granted set.
Players were quick to commiserate, sharing stories about their own lackluster Mythicals. Some even said they felt the paid sets should guarantee at least a 3-star Pokemon for completing them.
“It’s so disappointing spending money, and then all that time, to get something like that,” said one fan.
But some players encouraged OP to see a silver lining in the otherwise disappointing result: “Send it to Pokémon home and now you have yourself a level 20 Jirachi to use really early on in the switch games.”
The suggestion isn’t a terrible one. Players can give their disappointing Mythical ‘mons from Go a lease of new life in the older games via the Pokemon Home feature, freeing up space for Mythicals with better stats and IVs.
