How to get Applin, Flapple & Appletun in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
The Pokemon CompanyApplin, Flapple, and Appletun have returned in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Here’s how to acquire the Gen 9 apple Pokemon along with its evolutions.
Originally debuting in Pokemon Sword & Shield, Applin, Flapple, and Appletun have returned in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Each one is a dual Grass/Dragon-type Pokemon, and unlike in the Gen 8 games, Applin’s evolutions are no longer version-exclusive, so you can get all three in both Scarlet and Violet.
The Indigo Disk DLC added a new Applin evolution called Dipplin, which is covered in our separate guide. It also has an evolution of its own, called Hydrapple, which is covered here. Below, we’ll cover where you can catch Applin and how to evolve it into Flapple or an Appletun in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Where to find Applin in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Paldea locations
True to its Apple-like appearance, Applin can be found by dashing into trees while riding Koraidon or Miraidon. The Dash ability for Koraidon or Miraidon is unlocked after completing ‘The Search For the Stone Cliff Titan’ quest.
Alternatively, you can make a Great Avocado Sandwich by combining x1 Avocado, x1 Smoked Fillet, x1 Tomato, and x1 Salt. This sandwich greatly boosts the rate at which Dragon-type Pokemon spawns and makes it easy to find Applin wandering around in its respective spawn areas.
Trainers can find Applin in the following areas:
- South Province (Area Two) – around Cortondo
- South Province (Area Four) – around trees near the northern river and ponds
- East Province (Area One) – around Artazon
- East Province (Area Two)
- Tagtree Thicket
- West Province (Area Three)
Where to find Applin in the Teal Mask DLC
Applin makes a return in the Teal Mask DLC and can be found around Kitakami in the following locations:
- Apple Hills
- Kitakami Road (near Bus Stop)
- Mossfell Confluence (around Candy Apple stand)
Applin cannot be encountered in The Indigo Disk DLC in the wild, but it can be faced in one-star and two-star Tera Raid battles.
Where to find Appletun in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
In Paldea, you cannot meet Appletun in the wild. Instead, you must evolve it from Applin. That is, unless you own The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion pass, as it can be found in the Kitakami region from the Teal Mask DLC.
Where to find Appletun in the Teal Mask DLC
Appletun makes a return in the Teal Mask DLC, and it can actually be found rarely in the wild this time around. Specifically, Appletun rarely spawns in the Mossfell Confluence around the Candy Apple Stand in the southeast of the map.
Appletun cannot be encountered in The Indigo Disk DLC in the wild, but it can be faced in five-star Tera Raid battles.
Where to find Flapple in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Flapple cannot be caught in the wild, at least not in the base game. You must evolve it from Applin. If you want to meet one in the wild, then you need to buy The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion pass and visit the Kitikami region from The Teal Mask DLC.
Where to find Flapple in the Teal Mask DLC
Flapple makes a return in the Teal Mask DLC, and it can also be found rarely in the wild this time around. Specifically, Flapple rarely spawns in the Mossfell Confluence around the Candy Apple Stand in the southeast of the map.
Flapple cannot be encountered in The Indigo Disk DLC in the wild, but it can be faced in five-star Tera Raid battles.
How to evolve Applin into Appletun
Applin evolves into Appletun when exposed to a Sweet Apple item. You can purchase a Sweet Apple for $2,200 from the Delibird Presents stores in Mesagoza, Cascarrafa, and Levincia after you’ve defeated at least three Gym Leaders.
How to evolve Applin into Flapple
Applin evolves into Flapple when exposed to a Tart Apple item. You can purchase a Tart Apple for $2,200 from the Delibird Presents stores in Mesagoza, Cascarrafa, and Levincia after you’ve defeated at least three Gym Leaders.
Should you evolve Applin into Appletun or Flapple?
Appletun specializes in HP and Special Attack, while Flapple’s best stats are Speed and Attack. While trainers can get both evolutions quickly, each one has its own strengths and weaknesses to be aware of.
Unfortunately, both Pokemon were completely outstripped by the new Applin evolution introduced in The Indigo Disk DLC: Hydrapple. This worm dragon has some amazing built-in abilities, most notably Supersweet Syrup, which reduces an opponent’s evasion by one stage when switched in (once per battle.)
If you didn’t shell out for the DLC, then Appletun is the better choice of the two. It might be slow, but so is Flapple, and its tankier defense and hit points allow it to survive long enough to get its powerful Special Attack STAB moves off.
