New mythical Pokemon ‘Zarude’ coming to Sword and Shield

Paul Cotton

The new Mythical Pokemon teased for Pokemon Day has finally been revealed. Zarude will be coming to Pokemon Sword and Shield soon.

Unfortunately we don’t know exactly when Zarude will be added to the Galar region but we do know you won’t be able to find it through normal gameplay. This means finding it anywhere in the wild is out of the question.

Zarude details

The following details were revealed:

  • Category: Rogue Monkey Pokemon
  • Type: Dark and Grass
  • Height: 1.8m (5ft 10′)
  • Ability: Leaf Guard

The official Pokemon Sword and Shield website revealed more interesting details about the new Mythical species: “It can grow vines from the back of its neck, its wrists, and the soles of its feet at will. The vines are strong and flexible. They can be used to wrap around tree branches to move around or to grab Berries from distant branches. They’re useful for many different situations. The vines also have a healing property. If the vines are wrapped around a wound, it will heal.”

We also know it lives in a pack deep in the Galar forests. It doesn’t appreciate company either, attacking anyone outside its pack immediately.

This means other Pokemon are afraid of Zarude. How it compares to other Pokemon in terms of strength is currently unknown but we can assume it’s pretty powerful given its Mythical status.

How to catch Zarude

If Zarude can’t be caught through normal gameplay in Pokemon Sword and Shield, it begs the question how can you catch this new Mythical species. With more information “coming soon” we can only speculate on how you can get your hands on it.

Magearna, Pokemon Sun and Moon’s Mythical Pokemon, was caught using a QR code. The Nintendo Switch has no camera to scan them though, so it will be different this time around.

Some form of giveaway or perhaps a time limited event might be the way Game Freak introduce the dark and grass-type into the game. They could even make getting it quite a challenge but this seems unlikely as those who fail would be upset.

Fortunately, it appears it will be available for all Pokemon Sword and Shield players and not just those who buy the expansion pass.
