Fans expressed dissatisfaction with the dramatic drop in show quality and demanded Season 5 Queer Eye format back.

Hype for Queer Eye’s new season spread across all social media platforms as the Season 8 trailer dropped on January 8. After a year-long hiatus, Netflix decided to prioritize the reality program and announced two seasons in advance.

Netflix announced that Season 8 of Queer Eye would be released in early 2024, and Season 9 was already in early production.

While fans were delighted to hear the news, some claimed that Queer Eye has diverted way too far from its original concept.

Queer Eye fans are unsatisfied with show format changes

Queer Eye fans expressed dissatisfaction with the new seasons and said the show dropped in quality with the new format changes. They also said that they missed the vibe Queer Eye had up until Season 5.

Many viewers had the opinion that they missed the individual-focused transformations, rather than the new, group-focused ones.

A fan said, “For me, it was when they stopped featuring so many normal people and instead turned to businesses or groups. My favorite episode is Kenny (the old Croatian guy who got a dog) – it’s so heartwarming and lovely. He’s just a regular guy, not a saint or a business owner. I also really liked the Philly episode where they helped the guy who had been homeless – again, just a normal dude who deserved all the love after a difficult time.”

Another viewer agreed and commented: “I agree, it’s not the same when they do groups or businesses. It feels so much less personal (obviously) and almost like I’m watching a promo.”

Yet another said, “I think they need to go back to individuals and not businesses and churches, etc. If I feel like I’m watching an ad. I get very bored and it feels not authentic.”

One more expressed the same opinion and wrote: “I feel like I’m being smacked in the face with ‘heroes’ when I just want to watch the lovable dad whose daughter wants him to feel good about himself again.”

Currently, all seven seasons of the show are available to stream on Netflix, and the next season is scheduled to air on January 24.
