Spider-Man 2 devs scold players for targeting staff amid information drought
SonyMarvel’s Spider-Man 2 devs have scolded the community for sending “violent threats” to Insomniac staff as the wait for new updates continues.
Despite launching to rave reviews in October 2023, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has found itself mired in controversy a time or two.
Notably, the face model for Mary Jane, Stephanie Tyler Jones, called out a segment of the fanbase for calling her place of employment late last year. She said the messages that were left made her feel uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, it does not appear as though the harassment stopped there. Insomniac’s community developers were forced to address threats the team has received because of the ongoing silence regarding game updates.
Spider-Man 2 devs scold fans for response to lacking updates
Insomniac’s Advanced Senior Community Manager, Aaron Jason Espinoza, recently posted a tweet telling players that “Sending violent threats to game developers over game development things is childish and just plain f***ing stupid.”
Community and Marketing Director James Stevenson also chimed in. Stevenson said that while the crew understands the fanbase’s eagerness for more Spider-Man 2 news, sending threats isn’t the way to go about getting it.
The Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 community is still awaiting news updates concerning the sequel’s much-coveted New Game Plus mode and potential DLC.
As Stevenson noted in his tweet, however, it’s understandable that Insomniac hasn’t had much to say in recent weeks, given the devastating ransomware attack that targeted the studio in December 2023.
The hack culminated in a leak outlining Insomniac’s plans for the next decade and change. It makes sense, then, that the outfit would need time to regroup before engaging with the community again and rolling out new content.
