Women’s football star, Sam Kerr, was charged with a racial offense while in London, UK. Here are the details.

Sam Kerr, 30, an Australian player for Chelsea in the FA Women’s Super League and captain of the Australia Women’s National team, has been sighted by police for a “racially aggravated offense.”

The incident occurred in London in January of 2023 and Kerr has since been charged.

The governing body of football, Football Australia, has released a statement on Kerr’s behalf. However, Kerr has not, at this time, made an official statement since details have been released.

Football Australia “aware” of what happened with Sam Kerr

On January 30, 2023, Kerr was allegedly part of a racial attack on a taxi driver. Details about the offense are sparse, as it hasn’t been specified what was said or done by Kerr.

The incident happened in London where authorities responded to a complaint from the taxi driver.

After information was released to the public this week, Football Australia commented on what happened, “Football Australia is aware of the legal proceedings involving Sam Kerr in the United Kingdom. As this is an ongoing legal matter, we are unable to provide further comment at this time.”

Football Australia continued, “Our focus remains in supporting all our players, both on and off the field. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide support as appropriate.”

Despite multiple news outlets reaching out for comment, Kerr has not spoken publicly to fans about what occurred. She did, however, plead not guilty.

As for what’s to come, she is due to appear in London’s Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court in February 2025. Kerr will also not be playing in the 2024 Paris Olympics, as she is currently sitting on the sidelines due to an ACL injury.
