Jamie Carragher has insisted that it was “too easy” for John Stones to score against Liverpool during their 1-1 draw with Man City.

Stones opened the scoring for Pep Guardiola’s side in the 23rd minute, before an Alexis Mac Allister second-half penalty drew Liverpool level.

Despite a breathless end to the match, including a 99th minute penalty check by VAR for Liverpool, the two teams settled for a draw.

Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday, March 9, ensured that the Gunners remained top of the table on goal difference.

Jamie Carragher questions Liverpool defending vs Man City

City’s opening goal had some fans wondering whether VAR should have intervened over an alleged foul by Nathan Ake in the build-up.

Ake jostled with Mac Allister to move the Argentine away from the near post area, where Stones ultimately ended up turning the ball home past Caoimhin Kelleher.

Yet during his half-time analysis, Carragher questioned whether Mac Allister should have done more to prevent the goal.

“Mac Allister’s got to be more aggressive at the front post,” he told Sky Sports. “It’s obvious Ake is trying to move him for a reason and it’s just too easy.”

“Credit to Man City,” Carragher added. “It’s more about Man City’s quality than Liverpool’s [defending], but you can always look at something in a goal.”

Man City will return to Premier League action after the upcoming international break when they take on Premier League leaders Arsenal on March 31.

Liverpool will host Brighton at Anfield earlier that day. With a win against the Seagulls, Liverpool can move back to the summit, albeit only for a few hours.
