Roy Keane slams “embarrassing” Burnley & outlines Vincent Kompany failure
Sky SportsManchester United legend has slammed Man City great Vincent Kompany’s Burnley side and labelled the Clarets’ performances in the Premier League as “embarrassing”.
Burnley won the Championship title at a canter last season but have struggled to adapt to the step up to the Premier League.
Kompany’s side have won just three of their 26 matches this season and start the day 11 points adrift of safety in the relegation zone.
Keane slams “dreadful” Burnley
Ahead of their clash with Bournemouth on Super Sunday, Keane, who is working on the game as a Sky Sports pundit, has not held back with his brutal view on their performances so far this term.
“They have been dreadful,” Keane said. “Teams trying to compare styles of play to the Championship and to the Premiership, it is impossible. It is chalk and cheese. It is impossible.
“They look weak physically. The goals they are giving away are schoolboy stuff. It is dreadful. I admire managers who have a philosophy and a style of play but you have to adapt. It has been in no way good enough.
“It has been embarrassing. There is a chance you can win a football match but the stats against this team are embarrassing. The manager and his staff have to change it.
“If you can’t defend properly, you are in trouble. If you don’t score enough goals, you are going to head back to the Championship.
“We have seen it with all the teams at the bottom. Sheffield United, Luton at the moment, if you keep giving up three or four goals a game, then what are you expecting?
“I think we have gone too easy on some of the teams at the bottom, especially when you consider the positions of some of the managers. Kompany’s a brilliant example. He was an outstanding centre-half and he must know his team are all over the place defensively.
“You have to give yourselves a chance of winning football matches and, at the moment, they have been shocking.”
