Will Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson wrestle at Wrestlemania XL?
WWEThe rumors just keep getting louder and louder about Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s WWE future. But will he wrestle at Wrestlemania XL?
Johnson rose to superstardom in the WWE during the famous attitude era of the late 1990s. Along with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan, he is one of the most popular wrestlers of all time.
Johnson left full-time wrestling to transition to Hollywood and is now one of the highest-paid, A-list actors on the planet.
The 51-year-old last had an official match at Wrestlemania 32 in 2016. However, it was a squash of Erik Rowan and lasted a mere six seconds. Johnson’s last lengthy bout was over a decade ago when he lost to John Cena in 2013.
Yet, speculation continues to grow that The Rock could lace up his boots and return to the ring at Wrestlemania XL.
Wrestlemania XL: The Rock rumors continue
Following The Rock’s shocking return to the WWE, fans are clamoring over a potential match at Wrestlemania XL. As the newest member of the Bloodline, a teased tag team match against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins elicited strong reactions from the WWE Universe.
However, that has been turned on its head after Rhodes became the first person to win back-to-back Royal Rumble matches since Steve Austin 26 years ago. He will attempt to finish his story against Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania.
But Rhodes isn’t done with The Rock. He recently challenged “Rocky” to a one-on-one match, and according to the American Nightmare, he’s willing to fight any time and any place.
Dave Meltzer, on Wrestling Observer Radio, reports that WWE is still planning to go ahead with the dream singles match between Rhodes and Reigns at Wrestlemania XL.
So, if a Rhodes-Rock showdown occurs, it will likely come on Friday Night Smackdown or after ‘Mania, as the two are scheduled to appear on three shows before Wrestlemania XL.
Reigns awaits Rhodes in Wrestlemania main event
Reigns initially chose The Rock as his Wrestlemania opponent after Rhodes was hesitant to make a choice. Ultimately, Reigns would instead welcome The Rock to the Bloodline, squashing any immediate feud between the two.
Now, with the two in lockstep, the attention turns to Rhodes. As the current Undisputed WWE Universal champion, it falls on Reigns to defend his title and send Rhodes home in disappointment for a second straight Wrestlemania.
