Apple Vision Pro users show off PS5 and Steam Deck streaming prowess

PlayStation 5 and Steam Deck owners have been getting it on the fun and getting their money’s worth with the Apple Vision Pro.

The Apple Vision Pro hasn’t been out for long, yet many are already pushing the boundaries of what the expensive piece of Apple tech is capable of.

The high-dollar VR headset was designed with “spatial computing” in mind, letting you run all your apps within the projected virtual reality space. Yet, like with any high-powered gadget, it’s also been utilized by gaming fans in unique ways.

A new way to play the PlayStation 5

One X/Twitter user took the Apple Vision Pro to use in conjunction with their PlayStation 5. User danlowlows posted footage of the Apple headset being used to project a display for the Sony console while it running God Of War: Ragnarok.

By utilizing the MirrorPlay iPad app, they were able to stream the PS5 console and play without the use of their smart television. It may not be the easiest way to play the PS5, but it’s impressive to see what the Apple Vision Pro can do.

Upon seeing the footage, X/Twitter user solidpatt221 commented that “the concept of putting on a headset and playing a game anywhere is insane (and awesome).”

Fellow X/Twitter user quentinverchere replied to the post stating: “Wait there are third-party apps to do that?! I was so disappointed to not see the PS Remote App on the Vision Pro Store, you just made my day.”

It wasn’t only PS5 fans that have been tinkering around with compatibility with the Apple headset. Gaming handheld owners, like those with a Steam Deck, have also been putting the Apple Vision Pro to good use.

Steam Deck users are also joining in on the fun

Originally posted on X/Twitter, and later on the r/SteamDeck SubReddit, an Apple Vision Pro user is using the high-powered headset to elevate their Steam Deck gaming sessions. User justicejake showcased a video of the VR headset mirroring the display of their Valve handheld.

Within the video, while in the comfort of their bed, justicejake was able to use the Steam Link iPad app to freely adjust and move the projected display of the Steam Deck similarly to danlowlows on X/Twitter. The impressive feature is taken one step further, with the headset taking the Reddit user’s bedroom background, and overlaying it with a sunset sky.

Accompanying the video footage, justicejake iterated that there are “probably cheaper ways to stream your Steam Deck to a headset” and they’d be right. This cool trick costs $3,499, and that’s not including the price of having the Steam Deck on top of it all.

While it’s an expensive way to play the Steam Deck, fellow r/SteamDeck SubReddit user letshavefunoutthere commented, “damn that’s so f*****g cool. apple’s AR future is going to be such a game changer.”

PhattyR6 stated that it was the “most sane use of this three grand headset I’ve seen so far.”
