Originally a PlayStation exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima received a Director’s Cut release on the PS5, featuring new content and DLC. Now, the Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is on Steam, making this stunning cinematic Sucker Punch-developed title ideal for playing on the go.
With that in mind, here’s everything we know about whether or not Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is playable on Valve‘s Steam Deck.
Can you play Ghost of Tsushima on Steam Deck?
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is playable on the Steam Deck, however the game is listed as unsupported as the Legends co-op multiplayer requires Windows.
The previously PlayStation-exclusive Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut has arrived on Steam, however, it hasn’t yet received a ‘playable’ or ‘verified’ commendation by Valve. The Steam page indicates that Valve is “still working on adding support” for Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on Steam Deck.
According to a recent developer post, the game is listed as unsupported on the Steam Deck because the Legends co-op multiplayer requires Windows to access the brand-new PlayStation Network features. Luckily, the single-player experience of Ghost of Tsushima, including the Iki Island expansion, remains playable on the Valve handheld.
The developer update shared on Steam stated, “We know many of you are eager to play Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on handheld gaming devices like the Steam Deck. We’re happy to share that the single-player experience, including the Iki Island expansion, can be enjoyed on Steam Deck and similar handheld gaming PCs as we’ve worked extensively to optimize performance and deliver the best possible experience on these devices.”
The single-player experience of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut performs incredibly well on the handheld, reaching an average of 40 – 50 FPS with the in-game settings set to ‘medium’. The only major caveat, as Steam Deck Gaming revealed in a recent video, is that without HDR enabled, the game is “hideously dark.” With that in mind, turning on HDR is recommended, especially if you’re playing on an OLED model Steam Deck. Without HDR, the in-game brightness settings automatically default to 50% making the luscious visuals of Ghost of Tsushima hard to decipher.
The Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut requires 75GB of install space for your Steam Deck, which is even more than the 60GB of space needed for the PS5 version of the game.
Picking up one of the best microSD cards for the Steam Deck will help ensure you have plenty of storage space for Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and any Steam Deck game you want to play. Especially if you haven’t yet picked up the 1TB Steam Deck OLED or upgraded the SSD.
