Some iPhone users complain that their phone is not performing up to the mark since it was updated to iOS 17.

Software updates are meant to enhance the performance of a smartphone. Not only does it add new features, but it also keeps vulnerabilities at bay.

iPhones are known to have a long shelf life thanks to the multiple OS updates that Apple promises. Some users, however, aren’t happy with the performance of their phones after updating to iOS 17.

These users took to the social media platform Reddit to share their poor experiences. They highlighted the brand-new iPhones’ inability to perform seemingly essential functions that a few generation-old iPhones could easily handle.

Shiny new iOS 17 isn’t as smart as it should be

An iPhone 15 Pro user, B4DR1998, who upgraded from an iPhone 12 Pro, said that they’re annoyed with the latest iPhone’s inability to perform basic tasks that the iPhone 12 Pro could handle easily.

Highlighting a couple of instances, the user mentioned that the phone running on iOS 17 couldn’t autocorrect the typos. They said that the 15 Pro “suggests the most stupid words and autocorrect just doesn’t work like it should.

“For example when I type “geramny”, the phone will just not understand that it should be “Germany”.

“But it will show the german flag in the keyboard suggestions.”

Meanwhile, the iPhone 12 Pro “would easily change between languages while using the swipe gestures for typing.

“Autocorrect was always spot on and every tick on a key was registered well.

“The phone really understood what I wanted to say.”

They also highlighted the latest operating systems’ inability to stop the alarm clock from going off even when the user was wide awake and was using the phone.

They said:

“With the 12 Pro, I had days where I would wake up before the alarm would go off which I set in the Sleep/Health app.

“When I would use my phone after waking up, it would say something like: It seems like you’re already awake. Would you like to cancel the alarm you set?

“That was super convenient because indeed, I don’t need the alarm anymore. Now with the 15 Pro, for some reason, it doesn’t do that anymore. So whenever I wake up before the alarm goes off.”

Some users concurred that their experience was somewhat similar and felt the iOS 17 was not as smart as the previous versions. One user highlighted similar issues and suggested that the keyboard app on iOS 16 worked flawlessly, implying that the new operating system is the real culprit.

These comments are surprising, to say the least, especially at a time when smartphone makers are making their phones super powerful by inducing AI powers in them. Ever Apple has been highlighting various features to improve the smartphone usage experience; however, reality seems otherwise.
