Razer announces new anime collaboration but there’s one big catch
RazerRazer has officially unveiled its collaboration with Mobile Suit Gundam. The collab includes several pieces of clothing, as well as a chair. But, there’s one big thing missing.
When looking to get the latest PC peripherals, Razer will be one of the first names that is bound to pop into your head. That’s why when the company announced a new collaboration with the legendary anime franchise Mobile Suit Gundam, we were pretty excited.
The 1979 anime spawned the “real robot” genre and went on to inspire franchises like Neon Genesis Evangelion, The Expanse, and many more. In Razer’s collaboration, we can see a customized Razer Iskur X, which comes adorned with both the titular Gundam, in addition to Char’s Zaku.
This motif is repeated throughout the rest of the product lineup, which is, puzzlingly, all clothing. There are several shirts and sweatshirts announced here, all sporting the classic anime’s hero and antagonist mecha robots. But, this seems like a bit of a missed trick. As we’ve seen with previous Razer collabs, there are usually a handful of peripherals in the mix too, but all of that seems to be missing here.
If you cast your minds back to 2021, you might remember that Asus had the same license, and managed to produce everything from routers to cases, monitors, and graphics cards. MSI is about to do the same with the Monster Hunter series. So, what gives Razer?
No release details yet
Another interesting wrinkle for this collaboration is that Razer has not yet announced any kind of availability with the mecha masterpiece, so if you’re looking to get your hands on these mecha-based marvels, you might be out of luck until the company announces availability.
While more collaborations with big franchises are welcome, this one just sticks out as being just a little bit odd. Given the scale and breadth of the Gundam franchise, we think that Razer could have done slightly better with this announcement, and offered a wider range of themed goods including peripherals, as well as apparel and chairs for a more complete package.
