Riffmaster controller lets Steam Deck users shred while on the go
AcaiThe Riffmaster controller could be the next best Steam Deck accessory, as the upcoming music rhythm guitar controller is compatible with the PC gaming handheld.
The Riffmaster has got everyone talking. Guitar Hero fanatics and Fortnite fans alike are eager to get shredding on the upcoming controller.
With no release date yet in sight, most of us have to wait before we can take on Fortnite Festival the way it was intended. Yet some lucky few have already got their hands on the frets of this music rhythm controller beast.
Streamer Acai, well-known online for creating Guitar Hero-themed content, got his hands on the brand-new controller early. While showing off the versatile new device, Acai discovered that it even works on the Steam Deck.

In a video uploaded on X/Twitter, Acai showcased the Riffmaster in all its guitar glory. There’s not a lot that gets the controller working. Just the use of a USB hub dongle, which comes with the controller, and a few minutes of mapping the buttons, is all that’s needed.
The video showcases the Riffmaster being used to play Yarg, an open-source Guitar Hero-inspired music rhythm game. Through the short clip, there’s an impressive lack of input lag, with Acai displaying zero issues playing the Riffmaster within SteamOS.
The X/Twitter post gained a lot of traction. Many were quick to jump into the comments to share their hype over the upcoming controller.
User GhastlyLNX exclaimed, “I really hope it works with clone hero because omfg we are so BACK.”
To which Acai responded, stating that he was “playing clone hero with it last night” but decided to play Yarg within the video because it “needs to be more known.”
X/Twitter TheyCallMeT_Mac commented on the video post, sharing their excitement over the future Riffmaster release. They exclaimed, ” I can’t wait to get one of these guitars! I really hope they don’t sell out in an instant.”
We hope so too, with the Riffmaster bringing back mid-00s trends, we’re certain that they’re going to sell like hotcakes.
