ROG Ally 2 handheld will “likely launch” in 2024 according to Asus VP

The ROG Ally 2, a second-gen PC gaming handheld from Asus, will “likely launch” in 2024 according to one of the company’s executives.

Launched back in June 2023, the Asus ROG Ally was one of the first mainstream Windows-based gaming handhelds to hit the market after the launch of Valve’s Steam Deck.

It’s been one of the most popular, too. Since it’s running Windows 11, users can easily access other launchers like Xbox, Battle.net, and Epic Games.

In an interview with Techlusive, Arnold Su — Asus India’s Vice President of Consumer and Gaming PC, System Business Group — gave some insight on a potential new version of the ROG Ally.

Asus boss says ROG Ally 2 will “likely launch” in 2024

During a quick interview with the publication, Arnold Su shared that Asus is planning to bring a new device to customers sometime in 2024.

And, the exec says that it will be a second-generation device — meaning the ROG Ally 2 may be coming sooner than you think.

“…we most likely will launch a second-generation [handheld gaming console] this year. We will still keep the Windows features, but we will focus more on gaming,” Su said to Techlusive.

What that handheld will look like, or when it will arrive in 2024, is still up in the air as of writing. The ROG Ally form factor is quite popular with users in the market for a handheld, and has even been replicated in rival devices like the MSI Claw.

One major change would be touchpads like the Steam Deck and Ayaneo KUN. Navigating Windows 11 with just a touch screen and joysticks is quite a lackluster experience.

Touchpads can act as a mouse for games that don’t support a controller in the menu, too, meaning having them improves compatibility across the board. Only time will tell if Asus makes more significant changes to the system.
