Tekken 8 players slam Eddy’s new design which “completely butchered him”
Bandai Namco EntertainmentA beloved character is returning in Tekken 8’s DLC, but fans aren’t happy with his new design, trashing his overused hairstyle and unnecessary bulk.
Eddy Gordo joined the Tekken series in Tekken 3, using Capoeira to batter his foes with powerful kicks and unconventional maneuvers, making it hard to counter his attacks. He has appeared in every mainline Tekken since his debut.
The next entry in the Tekken series will be Tekken 8, which will launch on January 26 and feature a base roster of 32 characters. This includes fan favorites like Kazuya Mishima, Paul Phoenix, Nina Williams, Marshall Law, and Yoshimitsu.
While Eddy won’t be part of the base roster in Tekken 8, he will be the first DLC character added to the game. The first Character Pass will contain four characters, with Eddy being the first released sometime in Spring 2024.
Tekken 8 fans dislike Eddy’s new design in upcoming DLC
A user on the Tekken Reddit created a thread announcing Eddy’s return, but many fans were dissatisfied with his new design. Eddy is joining Tekken 8 with a drastically different hairstyle and a bulkier physique, especially his arms, which are buffer than his previous appearances.
“He looks huge, so swole… why would this Eddy Capoeira kick anyone when he can just forearm smash them in the chin and win!” one user wrote, while another said, “With the zoomer dreads. I thought this was going to be Eddy’s son until they showed the name and face without moving.”
A lot of fans compared him to Killmonger from the MCU: “I’ve seen more fictional characters with this style of dreads than in real life…I will never forgive Killmonger for this.”
“Why? What’s the point of changing his hair style?” one user asked, “I know that we all grow and change, but this is a fucking game.. why can’t you keep the things we all loved? It doesn’t even fit his style tbh. Not to mention his face, it doesn’t look like him at all.”
It’s not just the hair that people take issue with: “Everyone’s talking about his hair and I’m just over here looking at his hands. Why is he standing like he’s a T-Rex trying to make it’s arms look normal?”
There are some fans of Eddy’s new design, but they’re drowned in a sea of negativity, mainly aimed at his new “overused” hairstyle. It bears mentioning that Tekken 8 has lots of character customization options, so fans won’t be stuck with this new design if they don’t like it.
