Instacart shopper returns customer’s order after getting $2 tip
TIKTOK: bebesitalecii / UNSPLASHAn Instacart shopper returned a woman’s order to the store and gave her attitude after she accidentally tipped him only $2.
TikToker Bebesita (bebesitalecii) recently installed the Instacart app to order some things for her bunnies while she was sick. She chose some substitutions for her two items, placed the order, and went to sleep.
When Bebesita woke up, she received a notification that her shopper was arriving at the store. She then saw the receipt that’d been sent to her, which listed the tip as just $2. “Now I don’t recall it ever asking me to put in a tip, but again, I’m new to the app. Maybe I missed it,” she said in her video.
As she felt bad about the small tip, Bebesita talked with customer service for about 10 minutes to see if she could increase the tip. After the chat, she noticed some confusing notifications from her Instacart driver, which left her unsure about which items he actually bought.
The customer messaged him to ask if he was able to find the two things on her list and received a response that she deemed rude. He replied, “You were informed while I was in the store that an item was not available and that you need to pick a replacement, you ignored that notification.”

“The sass? Oh my god, ten out of ten,” Bebesita said in her video. “I’ve worked…I guess I still work in customer service. I own my own business. You do not talk to people like this.”
She then called out his attitude and forwarded him a copy of the chat she had with customer service about adjusting his tip to clarify why she missed his notifications. He responded by returning all her items to the store.
Bebesita believes the Instacart driver reacted this way because of the small tip he’d seen before taking the order. “This is the issue with tipping before service is done,” she captioned the clip.
Some TikTok users shared their frustrations with the app, with one writing, “I don’t use any of those apps, because why do I gotta tip before I get my delivery?”
Another said, “Sometimes I tip well and then I get rotting produce.”
Fortunately, the customer managed to get a refund, a $5 Instacart credit, and her order delivered by a different shopper after contacting customer service.
