Why is evil Shrek taking over TikTok? Viral EDM concert explained
TikTok: ravingreviewsIf you’ve been browsing TikTok lately, you’ve probably seen an EDM concert with ‘evil Shrek’ on your FYP. Here’s why it’s going viral and what it’s from.
EDM (short for electronic dance music) concerts have been getting more and more involved over the years.
A quick glance through YouTube videos of music festivals like EDC shows eye-popping digital visuals, ornate themed stages, and oodles of go-go dancers decked out in elaborate costumes.
However, some artists put more effort into their visuals than others — and Canadian DJ ‘Excision’ is one of those artists.
Excision goes viral on TikTok for Shrek-themed concert visuals
Excision is known for his explosive musical sound, spawning viral hits like Robo Kitty and The Paradox over the years. However, he’s also a big hit thanks to the digital visuals he uses at his live performances, as seen in the video below taken from his set at a Detroit concert in 2018.
Excision’s visuals are nothing short of mind-blowing, elevating the usual EDM experience into a fully-fledged roller coaster of sound and spectacle… but his latest visual feat is sending some netizens for a loop.
Recently, a clip from one of Excision’s live performances went viral on TikTok, showing an ‘evil Shrek’ roaring out at the crowd.
While Excision fans know this is par for the course for the EDM giant, others claim they’d be “terrified” to see a giant, malevolent Shrek at such a concert.
This isn’t the first time Excision has leaned into popular memes for his live sets, either. In the past, Excision even made a song about Harambe, who took over the screen at his live sets in 2017 as a massive, Yeti-like gorilla marching toward the crowd.
In fact, Shrek has been a major movement in EDM circles, as fans of the green ogre have even held Shrek-themed raves for quite a few years now.
This is just the latest viral Shrek moment to take over the internet — although it seems not everyone is a fan of this one.
