Woman sent home from work for 'unnatural' blonde hair

A Black woman said she was dismissed from work because of her blonde hair color, which the company deemed ‘unnatural.

Rosey (mielturner) took to TikTok to share how she was discriminated against and sent home the moment she walked through the door because of her blonde hair.

“They told me that blonde hair is not a natural hair color, and it goes against their grooming policy,” she said in a viral clip. “And I know they meant not natural for Black people… because we see Caucasian people with naturally blonde hair every day.”

The TikToker noted that one of the most surprising things about the incident was that the company she worked for is a Black-owned business.

“I feel like this goes against some kind of rights. Something!” Rosey said. “I’d see [it] if I walked in there with bright green hair — OK, cool — but this?”

TikTok users in the comments agreed that Rosie was facing a form of discrimination and urged her to pursue a legal case against the company.

“Glad you didn’t dispute this with them… go straight to a lawyer & let him teach them,” one person said. “You have grounds for a BAG. Consult a lawyer. Doesn’t matter if it’s black-owned,” another wrote.

“Sue them… the crown act protects you,” a third added. “They just ignorant because yes black people can be born with blonde hair. Sue them!” another commented.

In a follow-up clip, Rosey said the company stated that blonde hair is prohibited because it’s not traditional or natural. While the CFO initially approved her slightly darker blonde hair, HR later informed her that they’d come to an agreement with the CFO, and that she needed to dye it black or brown.

Rosey revealed in an updated video that she’s begun to pursue legal matters with a lawyer.
