Agatha All Along: Everything we know about the MCU series
DisneyYes, it was Agatha All Along, or at least that’s what the MCU wants you to think. Kathryn Hahn’s sinister witch, Agatha Harkness, is returning in her own series to kick off 2024’s Halloween season.
Agatha spawned plenty of memes and a hit song during her WandaVision, but Agatha All Along promises witchy hijinks and a horror movie tone.
When we last saw Agatha in Westview, she had been trapped by the chaos magic of the now-deceased Scarlet Witch. She believed herself to be a stereotypical suburban housewife, but that illusion is soon to be broken with the help of a “mysterious teenager”.
Agatha All Along promises a deeper dive into her history and witchcraft in Marvel when it releases on Disney+. But other mysteries are bound within the new TV show.
Agatha All Along release date
Agatha All Along releases with a two-episode premiere on September 18, 2024.
The teaser pays homage to the show’s myriad of previous titles: Coven of Chaos, House of Harkness, and Darkhold Diaries. It also adds a new one, The Lying Witch With Great Wardrobe.
In addition to the premiere date, Marvel confirmed the title Agatha All Along, a nod to Wandavision’s chart-topping song. In a previous interview, series star Kathryn Hahn had teased Agatha might even have multiple new songs for viewers to get stuck in their heads.
The show is set to have nine episodes in total. Speaking with Vanity Fair, star Patti LuPone confirmed this episode count, stating that “all nine scripts” for the show “were written before [they] started” filming.
It’s rated TV-14.

Kathryn Hahn will be returning as Agatha Harkness. She’s joined by Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, and other witches.
In addition to the witches who form Agatha’s potential new coven, some former Westview residents will appear. Now freed from Scarlet Witch’s control, this will be the first time we’ve seen the fallout of Westview after WandaVision.

In April 2023, Patti LuPone spilled some details on her MCU debut as a 450-year-old witch, Lilia Calderu. While appearing on an episode of The View, the Broadway icon opened up about her role.
“I researched her, she’s hot, she’s really hot, she’s got a great body and hair,” she explained. “The witches are: Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza, and [a] Familiar – if anybody knows Heartstopper – is Joe Locke.”
Rumors have long circulated that Locke may be an alternate version of Wanda’s son Billy Maximoff, aka Wiccan.
Plaza will be playing an original character named Rio Vidal. Rumors say Vidal is a “green witch” and Agatha’s former partner.
The role is Plaza’s first time in a big comic book project. The actor – best known for playing April Ludgate in Parks and Recreation – has a reputation for her deadpan comedic delivery. Her casting reunites her with Hahn, the two having worked on Parks and Recreation together.
Plot
Agatha All Along follows Agatha Harkness as she creates a coven to travel the perilous Witches’ Road to restore the power Wanda Maximoff stole from her in WandaVision.
The plot synopsis reads, “The infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing.
Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road”
The concept was introduced in James Robinson’s Scarlet Witch (Vol. 2) #3 in February 2016. While the Agatha series departs from the source material (the comic story heavily featured Wanda), it’s safe to say Agatha sees this as her path back to her former powers.
Agatha All Along teaser trailers
The first teaser trailer for Agatha All Along was released on July 8. A second was revealed on August 10.
It showcases a decidedly darker tone than the title Agatha All Along would imply. In it, we learn Agatha has broken free of Wanda’s spell following her presumed death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and is now on a quest to regain her powers.
Spooky music, singing of the road’s path to “all that’s foul and fair” accompanies the imagery in the second. She says “She took every little bit of power I had,” in the trailer. “I’m assembling a coven. We gotta get back on top.”
Will the Scarlet Witch be in Agatha?
Scarlet Witch doesn’t appear to be in Agatha All Along, but the first trailer hints her presence will be felt.
The first trailer opens with a moody opening akin to a detective show. Here, Agatha, believing herself to be a detective, is investigating a murder.
The murder, it turns out, is Wanda’s. But Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal appears to try to convince Agatha that she can free herself from the illusion. It all points to this not being Wanda but a manifestation of Wanda’s death inside the illusion she created in WandaVision’s finale.
It’s unknown if Wanda is alive in the MCU in any way. That said, we’re sure there will be plenty of references to her Agatha.
Agatha All Along releases on Disney+ on September 18.
