Avatar: The Last Airbender drops on Netflix this week – but how many episodes are there? Here’s what you need to know.

The Aang gang is back, baby – and this time, they’re in fully-fleshed human form (complete with an incredibly real-looking flying bison).

Taking on the popular 2005 cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender, Netflix is setting out to replicate its previous live-action anime success of One Piece and hopes to add another fantasy titan to its ranks including The Witcher.

With episodes only a matter of days away, here’s everything you need to know about how many new installments of Avatar: The Last Airbender there actually are.

How many episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender are there?

There are a total of eight episodes of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Thankfully for fans, all episodes are set to be released at exactly the same time, meaning there’s no delay on finding out what happens next.

However, this doesn’t mean that new episodes have been without their controversies, with plenty of reports indicating that key elements from the cartoon will be removed in the live-action adaptation.

This includes the so-called “gender issues” that were in the original animation, with cast members since having spoken out against the fan backlash.

Speaking to Metro UK, Sokka actor Ian Ousley stated: “I think that the essence of the character that Sokka is, is 100% the character that is portrayed in the live-action version of the show. I think the fans are a little worried that there’s going to be changes in who Sokka is, and I don’t really think that’s been the case at all in our show.

“Obviously it’s different from an animated show to a live-action in those ways, but the heart and soul of the animation show is the breath that we’re all playing into.”

Sozin’s comet is also set to take a back seat in the Netflix version, alongside Aang’s infamous side quests with his two best friends, Katara and Sokka.
