Bride of Frankenstein: Everything we know
Universal PicturesSome big horror names are heading back into cinemas soon, and it seems that the Bride of Frankenstein is about to join them.
When it comes to horror icons, people may always mention Frankenstein. But true connoisseurs of the genre will also bring up the Bride of Frankenstein.
A movie about the creature first premiered all the way back in 1935, and is considered a Universal Pictures monster movie classic, with a 98% Critics’ Score on Rotten Tomatoes. But the character hasn’t been touched upon much since (barring comedies like Young Frankenstein and Hotel Transylvania), especially not to the level that Frankenstein has.
But thankfully, that is set to be rectified, as with Nosferatu this year, Bride of Frankenstein is getting another new go in cinemas. Here’s everything we know so far.
Bride of Frankenstein release: Is there a release date?
While there is currently no date of release, Bride of Frankenstein is set to begin filming in the first quarter of 2024.
This comes after numerous delays for the production, including developmental changes and the recent SAG-AFTRA strikes.
It has also been made clear that Bride of Frankenstein, like the 2020 film The Invisible Man, will be a separate monster piece from the attempted Dark Universe Franchise, which began with Tom Cruise’s The Mummy back in 2017.
Bride of Frankenstein cast: Who is working on the movie?
So far, these cast members have been announced:
- Jessie Buckley
- Christian Bale
- Peter Saarsgard
- Penélope Cruz
- Annette Bening
Maggie Gyllenhaal, of The Dark Knight fame, will be directing the movie after long periods of developmental changes.
Bride of Frankenstein trailer: Is there a trailer?
Sadly, since production is still in the early works, there is currently no promotional material for Bride of Frankenstein.
For now, check out the trailer for the original, to get a taste of what’s to come.
Bride of Frankenstein plot: What will happen in the movie?
While there is currently no official plot for this upcoming revamp, the film is said to be a standalone period piece set in 1930s New York, focusing on the chaos that the Bride will cause.
While it’s set to be a standalone film rather than a true remake, Bride of Frankenstein will no doubt follow a similar concept as the original, which involves Dr Frankenstein creating a monstrous woman for his other lightning-created monster to marry. Furthermore, since the concept of Frankenstein comes from author Mary Shelley, no doubt the upcoming flick will be drawing from her work.
The plot of the original movie – and perhaps this new one too – is as follows: “After recovering from injuries sustained in the mob attack upon himself and his creation, Dr. Frankenstein falls under the control of his former mentor, Dr. Pretorius, who insists the now-chastened doctor resume his experiments in creating new life. Meanwhile, the Monster remains on the run from those who wish to destroy him without understanding that his intentions are generally good despite his lack of socialization and self-control.”
