Those who grew up in the late 80s and early 90s likely have plenty of nostalgia associated with Chuck E. Cheese restaurants and arcades.
While the entertainment center chain has undergone myriad changes over the years, such as ditching its animatronic cast, the pizza restaurant is still alive in 2024.
Now, it seems the Chuck E. Cheese brand is gearing up for yet another major nostalgia play as a TV game show based on the popular IP is in the works – and it takes cues from Squid Game.
Chuck E. Cheese has TV game show in the works
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the TV series will be a game show where adults compete in larger versions of the arcade games hosted at the popular entertainment restaurant chain.
The game show is being developed by production company Magical Elves, which has produced shows like Top Chef and Brain Games.
Promotional materials explained, “The format will feature stand-alone comedic physical challenges where duos of ‘big kids’ will compete over supersized arcade games – including pinball, air hockey, alley roller, and the human claw.”
The adult duo who wins the competition will then get the chance to exchange their tickets for prizes, just like the real-life restaurant arcade experience.
Similar to the fictional series Squid Game, and eventually Squid Game: The Challenge, it seems the game show will pit adults against each other while taking on a variety of massive arcade and game-inspired challenges.
At the time of writing Magical Elves has not revealed when production on the game show will begin or where fans can expect the show to air.
While the Chuck E. Cheese brand has struggled to maintain relevance in the 2000s, perhaps this game show will be the adult-centric nostalgia trip the IP needs to bring it back to life.
