“Terrifying” found-footage horror movie with near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score is on Netflix

One of the creepiest found-footage movies ever made – and its sequel – are available to stream on Netflix right now.

Found-footage is a polarising sub-genre of horror; some people think The Blair Witch Project is the best horror movie they’ve ever seen (me), while others find its shaky-cam frights tedious.

After booming in the 2000s, directors have found exciting ways to twist the format. Cloverfield is among the best sci-fi movies ever made, giving audiences a street-level view of an alien Kaiju attack, while Chronicle quickly became one of the best superhero movies of all time.

However, in terms of straight-up horror, a 2014 movie may be the best found-footage film since Blair Witch – and it has a similarly acclaimed sequel, both of which are on Netflix.

Creep is incredible. It stars Mark Duplass as Josef, an eccentric man who’s dying from an inoperable brain tumor. He hires a cameraman (Patrick Brice, also the movie’s director) to film a video diary for his unborn child – but as the day goes on, Josef’s increasingly intense behavior starts to frighten his guest.

I can’t mention much more without spoiling it, but I’ll say this: Duplass arguably delivers one of the greatest horror performances ever in both Creep and Creep 2, and you can watch them both on Netflix right now.

If you’re not convinced, the first film has a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while its sequel boasts a whopping 100% rating. They’re the real deal – and don’t just take my word for it.

“Just finished this. My goodness!!! What a satisfying film to watch! The pacing, the uneasiness that you feel the whole time. And that ending WTF! Really enjoyed this one,” one Redditor wrote.

“Wow. The only movie, in a very long time, to give me mega-heebiejeebies. Like I will NOT watch that movie again… and that final scene? Holy freak balls. So sinister and… gah now I’m reliving the icky feeling,” another commented.

“Mark Duplass absolutely f**king kills it in that role. I was just so uncomfortable and on guard the entire time. I really like him a lot,” a third wrote.

“The series is based on a collection of video tapes in the secret vault of the world’s deadliest and most socially uncomfortable serial killer, who hires his victims to film him for the day under false pretenses… Each episode exposes a new victim from one of the fabled Creep Tapes,” its logline reads.
