Deadpool 3 will “have to” include Morbius jokes, writers say
20th Century StudiosDeadpool 3’s writers didn’t realize we were living through the summer of Morbius. Now that they know it’s Morbin’ time, they’ll “have to” work some jokes into the sequel.
The #MorbiusSweep is still on folks. Nothing says success like a single screening a day, at best, often after 9pm. Week after week, these screenings are occupied by single-figure audiences checking out the Living Vampire’s debut for the first time – or, in the case of the insane, revisiting it for painful pleasure.
Reminiscent of the Marvel flops of the 2000s, Morbius borders on a filmmaking disaster – yet, it’s managed to find a place in meme legend, whether it’s mock-ups of Morbius video game adaptations (often on the Wii or Nintendo DS), fake box office figures, or fans “Morbin’ off” at home.
In perhaps the funniest twist of its woes, Sony re-released Morbius into theatres amid the constant trends on Twitter, believing it would translate to cinema tickets. How wrong the studio was: it brought in a measly $280,000 across the US, bringing its box office total to nearly $164 million.
Deadpool 3 writers didn’t know about the Morbius memes, but now they do
During a recent appearance on BroBible’s Post Cred Pod, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick discussed Deadpool 3 and whether Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth would hone in on Jared Leto’s Morbius.

While admitting to having not seen the film, nor have were they aware of the memes, they’re all aboard the Morb train.
'Deadpool' screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were unaware of the #Morbius memes 🧛🏻♂️
"We haven't seen 'Morbius'. We haven't even seen the memes. But now it's on our radar."

Deadpool 3 writers tease “fish-out-of-water story” in MCU sequel
The writers also teased the plot of Deadpool 3, which will seemingly follow the hero in a “fish-out-of-water” setting.
Will he be dropped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe via a multiverse mishap and simply have to contend with a world where the Avengers exist? Will he still remember his past under the 20th Century Fox banner? We’ll find out in good time.
The pair explained: “I think it presents a wonderful opportunity for fish-out-of-water. Deadpool is a lunatic at the center of a movie. Usually, the lunatics are the supporting characters and the protagonists are reasonably sane. Our movie’s flipped. To drop a lunatic into a very sane world, it’s straight butter. It’s going to be really fun.
“The MCU is an amazing sandbox to play in. We’ll throw lots of clichés as well because we’re giving it 110% man or taking it one day at a time… we can’t divulge details but suffice it to say that when Ryan and Paul and I are on Zoom together, we are cackling. So, it’s pretty fun.”
The Deadpool films are currently available to watch on Disney+
