Deadpool & Wolverine finally brought Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth into the MCU, but director Shawn Levy has already expressed interest in his next team-up: Spider-Man.

After the box office success of Deadpool & Wolverine, it seems like a no-brainer that stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will reprise their roles at some point. The characters are seen surviving the events of the movie and returning to Deadpool’s world in the film’s ending, but they now seem to have connections with the TVA.

Those connections open the door for a jaunt to the MCU proper, which leaves all kinds of possibilities. Speaking with Total Film, director Shawn Levy revealed his next dream crossover would be none other than Spider-Man.

“The thing about Deadpool is I think he makes everything more interesting because of his audacity,” Levy said. “But, boy, I’d sure love to see Deadpool and Spidey. That’s a movie I’d love to make. I feel like Tom Holland would run circles around everyone else.”

A Deadpool and Spider-Man crossover has been high on the fans’ minds, too. Their comic book counterparts have a long-running (albeit strained) sort of working friendship, where Spidey begrudgingly respects or even likes Deadpool but doesn’t agree with many of his methods.

The Spider-Man/Deadpool friendship has led to a number of iconic moments, from the two having to team up to Deadpool being stranded in a ’60s Spider-Man comic. It’s a pairing designed for hilarity, as Deadpool’s very nature means the typically sarcastic Spidey can be the straight man, creating a unique dynamic.

We don’t yet know what the future holds for Deadpool. Reynolds has played coy about returning to the character, telling Collider he wasn’t sure when or if he would don the costume again.

“Honestly, right in this moment, I have no idea if I’ll ever wear that Deadpool suit again,” Reynolds said. “I hope I do, but I don’t know. Right now’s the time to just kind of hang it up for a bit and see what happens next.”

Meanwhile, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is expected to return for one or both of the MCU’s upcoming Avengers films, Doomsday and Secret Wars, though nothing is confirmed. A Sony-developed Spider-Man 4 is in the works, but no details have been revealed as of this writing.

The next MCU movie will be Captain America: Brave New World, hitting theaters in 2025. Until then, read about the Thanos-level mutant The Fantastic Four could introduce or the fake Kang Dynasty script that’s going viral.
