Disney accused of “erasing” The Acolyte after cancelation
Lucasfilm/DisneyRemember The Acolyte, the Star Wars show that was just canceled? No? Well, that’s possibly because Disney is “erasing” its existence, according to fans.
It’s been a mixed bag for the Star Wars timeline this month, with fans split between glee and dismay over the confirmation that The Acolyte is no more.
With its eight episodes wrapping up a mere month ago, Disney has pulled the plug on any future episodes of the new TV show – but, according to fans, that’s not the only thing the studio is “erasing.”
As of August 21, all merchandise for The Acolyte has disappeared from the Disney online store. After such a sudden cancelation announcement (showrunner Leslye Headland was hoping for a three-season run) fans think it’s part of a bigger strategy to gloss over its lack of success.
“Disney really is trying to erase this show as much as possible. Oh they’re hella embarrassed by it,” one fan posted on X/Twitter.
A second agreed, “Wow they really are trying to make people forget about the show lol,” with a third weighing in, “Why do I feel it’s getting taken off of Disney Plus soon?”
This last point is unlikely to happen, as all Star Wars shows and movies currently exist under their own sub-section. If anything, The Acolyte may just be quietly moved to the back burner.
Since June, it’s been one of the biggest releases on the streaming service, with the marketing campaign to match.
Others pointed out that Disney Plus has done this sort of thing before. For example, Willow came out in 2022, but when it didn’t do profitable numbers, it was conveniently forgotten about.
However, the big difference here is the Star Wars IP. Regardless of what fans want, The Acolyte can only be brushed under the carpet so much – it’s introduced some key lore changes (such as Darth Plagueis‘ backstory) and vital information for the earliest BBY timeline.
“This is just pathetic lol. Acolyte deserved better,” another fan weighed in.
One fan even clapped back to the volatile fan reaction, stating, “All these people saying it was a good show and it deserved better… did you buy merchandise for it?”
We’ve broken down all the reasons why The Acolyte got canceled, and as many “woke” complaints as there were, that’s not why it was axed.
All eight episodes of The Acolyte are available on Disney Plus now. You can also catch up with how the show “wokebaited” its fans, all members of the Jedi Order featured, and new TV shows streaming this month.
