Dune 2 director jokes Anya-Taylor Joy’s secret role required a crew ‘blood pact’
Searchlight PicturesDune 2 director Denis Villeneuve reveals the lengths the crew went to in order to hide Anya Taylor-Joy’s role in the film.
In just a few short weeks, sci-fi fans will be graced with the most anticipated sequel of the year in Dune: Part Two.
Following up directly where the 2021 film left over, Dune 2 will see Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) join forces with Chani (Zendaya) and her people the Fremen as they work together to both seek revenge and save the world.
While the cast is completely stacked with A-listers, the film’s crew had one more surpurise up their sleeve as it was revealed Anya Taylor-Joy has some secret role in the film and Dune 2 director Denis Villeneuve has explained how hard it was for them to keep that secret from fans.
Dune 2 went to great lengths to keep Taylor-Joy a secret
The sandworm was let out of the bag when Taylor-Joy appeared attended the film’s world premiere in London where she all but confirmed her involvement in the movie.
When prompted to explain why she was at the premiere of the film, Taylor-Joy responded, “You’ll have to see the film.”
Villeneuve went on to tell Entertainment Weekly that keeping Taylor-Joy’s role hidden took a lot of out the crew stating, “I cannot believe that we kept the secret that long. It required so much work to keep that secret. Everybody signed with their blood.”
Rumors about Taylor-Joy’s involvement in Dune 2 began last week when Letterboxd added the title to Taylor-Joy’s extensive filmography.
Though the credit was quickly wiped from her profile, a screenshot of the addition quickly made the rounds on social media, causing Dune fans to wonder how she would be used in the movie.
Unsurprisingly, the cast and crew have been extremely tight lipped on who Taylor-Joy will be playing, but many fans think she will play Alia Atreides, Paul’s four year old sister who acts and speaks like an adult thanks to her connection to the Bene Gesserit, an exclusive sisterhood who train their bodies and minds to obtain superhuman abilities and powers.
If this is the role Taylor-Joy was cast in, she would be heard and not seen in Dune 2, but will definitely make a big return in Dune 3 as it takes place 12 years after the upcoming sequel.
