Dune 2 fan finds major connection between Austin Butler & Alien prequel
Warner Bros.Austin Butler’s Feyd-Rautha has garnered praise in Dune 2 for his menacing stare and dangerous sex appeal – but fans can’t get over his bald look which led one fan to find a connection to the Alien prequel.
Feyd-Rautha is “psychotic” according to the Dune sequel, a na-Baron to the Harkonnen throne. He craves blood and power. Seeing as both Baron and Rabban Harkonnen are bald, it was no surprise that Feyd-Rautha would be too.
Austin Butler thankfully didn’t need to shave his hair or eyebrows for the role. Instead, he wore a convincing bald cap that gave the appearance of a smooth noggin. But many can agree that Butler’s bald look was really bald, and definitely stood out compared to the other Harkonnens.
One fan’s inquisitive thoughts led them to do a deep dive into Dune 2 and the possible reason why Butler’s Feyd-Rautha was so clean-shaven.
Dune 2 and Alien 2 prequel have a connection
Through a fan’s investigative search, they uncovered that Dune 2 was co-written by John Spaihts, who also worked on the Alien prequel, Prometheus.
On X/Twitter, a fan made a comical observation on just how bald Feyd-Rautha is in Dune 2.
“I like to imagine there’s one bald guy in Hollywood who keeps going, ‘Ok but what if he was really, really bald. The most bald. Can we make him balder’,” said the fan.
They then continued to add to the joke on what could have happened on set as Butler’s Feyd-Rautha became even more bold, but it just wasn’t enough. The fan then made another tweet leading them to wonder if someone on the Dune 2 set was really bald and just wanted more. Their investigation led to a jaw-dropping discovery.
“Oh my God I looked it up. Villeneuve’s cowriter John Spaihts worked on Prometheus. There really *is* a guy demanding more baldness and paleness,” they revealed.
Jon Spaits co-wrote the 2012 science-fiction horror Prometheus, a prequel storyline to the Alien franchise. In this movie, a crew ventures to space following a star map in the hopes of uncovering where humanity came from. They find themselves in a distant planet and discover an alienoid race known as Engineers.
The Engineer and Feyd-Rautha look strikingly similar. From the lack of hair to their white skin tone. There’s a correlation between Spait’s depiction of the Engineers in Prometheus versus Butler’s Feyd-Rauth in Dune 2.
Some fans laughed at the discovery, but one fan commented, “You know, I respect that. Of all the things someone could use their influence to do, ‘more bald characters’ is a pretty agreeable one.”
