Ewan McGregor is hoping to play Obi-Wan Kenobi again in the future, as the cast and crew of the Disney+ show discuss a potential second season.

Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered on Disney+ on May 27 and is about to conclude its first season. Though the Star Wars spinoff show has been described as a limited series, this hasn’t stopped McGregor from pondering its future.

McGregor is open to Season 2 of Kenobi, though he hopes to do it before he ages out of the role.

Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen discuss Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 plans

The cast and crew of Obi-Wan Kenobi spoke with Radio Times about the show’s future, with McGregor expressing: “I hope it’s not the last time I play him.”

“I had such a great time doing this, I’m sure we can think of a few more stories before I turn into Alec Guinness, don’t you think?”

McGregor’s return as Kenobi has been in the works since the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, so it’s no surprise he’s keen to play the Jedi Master while he can.

Hayden Christensen reprised his role as Darth Vader in the Disney+ show.

Castmate Hayden Christensen “would love to continue” playing Darth Vader but is aware that the show “was definitely conceived as a standalone story.”

“I think there’s certainly more there to explore and I would be so excited to get to do so,” added Christensen. Director Deborah Chow echoed Christensen’s comments, saying while there are “more stories to tell” the “story was very much conceived to be its own standalone.”

“There’s obviously another 10 years before we get to A New Hope… So, who knows? It’s hard to say right now, but it was not the intention,” she added.

The show’s executive producer Joby Harold wasn’t so sure, though, saying to Digital Spy: “My mind is so focused on this as a sort of limited series, that I haven’t thought beyond it.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi is available to stream on Disney+ and will conclude on June 22, 2022.
