Five Nights At Freddy’s 2: Everything we know about the sequel
Universal PicturesFive Nights at Freddy’s 2 is in the works and now that filming is underway, we’ve got all the details on returning cast members, plot, release date, and more. Here’s the full rundown.
After years of waiting, the Five Nights At Freddy’s film finally arrived in theatres in 2023. While the movie was met with mixed reviews, it still managed to bring in a solid sum of roughly $300M at the box office.
Many praised the animatronics that were specifically designed for the movie and enjoyed the Easter eggs and references to the games. Given its immense profit, a sequel was greenlit almost immediately, and there’s even been talks of a third film set to follow it up shortly after as well.
For now though, here’s everything we know thus far about Five Nights At Freddy’s 2.
Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 release window
FNAF 2 is scheduled to release on December 5, 2025.
As filming got underway in November 2024, we know for certain the sequel’s production is on track and the crew is barrelling towards its end-of-year release date.
Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 cast: Who will be in the film?
While it’s early days yet, we do know four cast members set to reprise their roles in the sequel. Josh Hutcherson is back in the lead role as Mike Schmidt while the likes of Vanessa, Abby, and William are all on their way back too.
Confirmed FNAF 2 cast:
- Josh Hutcherson – Mike Schmidt
- Elizabeth Lail – Vanessa
- Piper Rubio – Abby
- Matthew Lillard – William Afton
Beyond these confirmed names, we’re yet to hear of any new crew members joining in on the frightful festivities, but we’ll keep you posted when that changes.
When asked what he would want to see for a sequel, Lillard expressed that he is open to any and everything the director throws his way, even if it does mean him hiding behind a mask as Springtrap.
“For me as an actor, in terms of Afton, I mean, it’ll be interesting. Now with Springtrap, is he in the mask the whole time? Does he do flashback sequences? I don’t know what that is, quite frankly.”
Five Nights At Freddy 2 plot: What will the sequel be about?
While the ending of the first FNAF movie tied up most plot threads, it left the door open for a sequel. To recap the ending of FNAF, Vanessa revealed that her dad used to work at the pizzeria as a yellow rabbit, which is a motif seen on the derelict walls in the restaurant in children’s drawings, as well as being something the dream children talk about.
Vanessa’s dad was a man named William Afton, who snatched the five children and put them where nobody would think to look – inside the animatronics themselves.
Not only was Afton responsible for taking Mike’s brother Garrett, but he was also the same person as Steve Raglan, the careers expert from earlier on. While Mike has been out, a defunct version of Freddy goes to collect Abby at the house, killing Aunt Jane in the process.
When they get back to the restaurant, the animatronics turn on her, each trying to kill her. Mike races back to the restaurant, tasers in hand, just in time to stall the bulk of the dolls before the yellow rabbit arrives.
The child version of Freddy is seen back at the restaurant, watching the slow death of Afton in the rabbit costume, which fans will know as the character Springtrap.
We got our first look at the sequel on January 25 thanks to YouTuber Dawko, who was provided three early images to reveal as part of a charity stream. While they’re nothing groundbreaking, we do see Matthew Lillard on set, along with a new ‘FazTalker’ toy that’s sure to be devious.
For now, that’s the full rundown on everything we know about the FNAF sequel coming later this year. We’re sure to start seeing plenty more in the coming weeks though so check back often as we’ll keep you up to speed with all the latest details here.
