This Game of Thrones star refuses to watch House of the Dragon for understandable reason

As the Game of Thrones TV universe expands, more stars get added to the roster – but one actor from the original series refuses to watch House of the Dragon for a fair reason.

Kit Harington, who played everyone’s favorite bastard Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, has nothing to do with the prequel series, House of the Dragon. Aside from being a distant relative in the Targaryen bloodline, House of the Dragon actually has surprisingly few connections to the first HBO show.

Still, with the two shows being connected by George R.R. Martin’s books, one would expect the cast members to be fans of the other. But Harington has no interest in watching the spinoff, and it’s easy to understand why.

“I just can’t watch it,” Harington said [via Associated Press]. “I think for me it’s just I’ve spent too long there. And I wish them all the best, and I hope, I hear it’s wonderful and going really well. But I don’t think I’ll ever watch that show, and I don’t think I’ll watch Game of Thrones again for a few years.”

He’s not the only GoT star to avoid the prequel series. Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, also hasn’t tuned into House of the Dragon.

“I just can’t do it,” she told Variety in 2023. “It’s so weird, it’s so weird, it’s so strange. It’s kind of like someone saying, ‘Do you want to go to this school reunion that’s not your year? You want to go back to that school reunion?’ That’s kind of how it feels. I’m avoiding it.”

Given how Clarke’s character was included in House of the Dragon Season 2’s finale (albeit played by another actress), one has to wonder if she’s changed her mind about giving the fantasy prequel a go.

House of the Dragon Season 2 has ended, but Season 3 is on the way. While you wait, check out the 5 shows just like it to watch, and don’t miss our breakdown of the Season 2 ending explained.
