Guillermo del Toro’s star-studded Frankenstein has been “50 years in the making”
Universal PicturesGuillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein film just added another A-list actor to its cast, and del Toro has revealed how long he’s been waiting to put this film together.
Everyone is familiar with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, which is a novel centered around a human-like monster who was brought to life thanks to a mad scientist.
However, it looks like Oscar-award winning director Guillermo del Toro is ready to put his own spin on the classic novel as prepares to film a new adaptation.
The movie already has a star-studded cast, but a new member of its ranks was recently announced along with del Toro’s explanation on how the movie came to be.
Frankenstein is del Toro’s dream film to make
Guillermo del Toro recently attended Collider’s 10th anniversary IMAX 3D screening of Pacific Rim, which del Toro wrote, directed, and produced.
During the Q&A section, del Toro revealed that his Frankenstein adaptation got a new addition to its cast in Christoph Waltz.
“I’m doing Frankenstein. We’re working on it. We start shooting in February, and it’s a movie I have been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein,” del Toro said. “I had an epiphany, and it’s basically a movie that required a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn’t have done 10 years ago.
“Now I’m brave or crazy enough or something, and we’re gonna tackle it. It’s Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield, Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth, and we’re working on it.”
Del Toro seems to be the best person to tackle Frankenstein as he called the work his “favorite novel in the world.”
The director also has a way with telling a horror themed story in a way that lets it feel more than just a scary story, like he did with Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water. If del Toro can match his previous directorial feats, Frankenstein will be a very layered and nuanced take on the iconic story.
