Henry Cavill breaks silence on “serious” Highlander reboot
Netflix/Studio CanalEx-Witcher star Henry Cavill just assured fans he’s still attached to Chad Stahelski’s reboot of Highlander.
The production is the latest of several franchise revivals Cavill has signed up for during his career. He also headlined the 2013 Superman relaunch Man of Steel and the 2015 big-screen adaptation of The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
The English actor has spearheaded fledgling screen properties, too. Not only did he portray the titular character in Netflix’s Witcher series, but he’s also on board for Amazon Studios’ upcoming slate of Warhammer 40K projects.
Before Cavill takes up his Chainsword in the latter, he’ll wield a more conventional blade in the Highlander reboot – or at least, that’s been the plan since 2021.

And it still is, according to an interview Cavill recently gave ComicBook.com. The star confirmed he’s still very much involved with Highlander, and teased the reboot’s intense vibe.
“There’s a lot of work to be done yet on my part,” Cavill said. “It’s going to be a serious ride, I’ll tell you that much.” Cavill made similar remarks about his upcoming Highlander prep in a recent interview with Collider, noting that Highlander’s swordplay will necessitate “a very long training process.”
This suggests that Stahelski is keen to honor the Highlander franchise’s reputation for expertly staged sword fights. The director previously told the Happy Sad Confused podcast that the reboot would stay true to Highlander’s core premise – immortal warriors battling to be the last one standing – as well.
He also suggested that his Highlander do-over would weave together plot points and characters from both the Highlander movies and TV shows.
“We’re looking to do our story [and it] engages a lot of the same characters and stuff like that,” Stahelski explained. “But we’ve also brought in elements of all the TV shows. We have ideas for days… I just think that’s a rich, rich mythology.”

But while the Highlander franchise’s motto has long been “There can be only one,” the relaunched franchise will apparently embrace a more pluralistic mentality. Aside from multiple planned sequels, Stahelski is developing a tie-in TV series, too.
“The trick is when you have the tagline, ‘There can only be one,’ you can’t just kill everybody in the first movie… We’re trying to do a bit of a prequel – a setup to the Gathering – so we have room to grow the property,” Stahelski said during his Happy Sad Confused podcast appearance.
