Hanmin has issued an apology to His Man fans after Episode 14, coming after viewers slammed his “blunt” break-up with Youngjoon.

The Korean reality series is in its third season, bringing eight single gay men together in one house (if you’ve just finished The Boyfriend reunion, this should be next on your watch list).

In the latest episode, Hanmin parted ways with Youngjoon and returned his ring. It’s become an incredibly contentious moment in the show, with many fans feeling he mishandled the situation and should have been more considerate of Youngjoon’s feelings.

“It was cruel and very uncomfortable to watch,” one viewer wrote, while another commented: “I already feel so bad for YJ – my heart broke watching his sad face and fake smile trying to act like he’s okay.”

Hanmin’s Instagram has been flooded with comments from angry fans since the episode aired, and he’s now posted an apology admitting to his own “shortcomings.”

“I know you are upset and angry after watching Episode 14. I’m also upset and sad watching the broadcast,” he wrote.

“All of that didn’t convey the situation properly to you at the time I understand that it’s due to my shortcomings. We talked a lot outside of the program. We talked about getting to know each other slowly as friends.

“I’m sorry if I hurt everyone. I’m just sorry. It’s okay to blame me for not being enough. But please don’t fake the memory of a precious week… thank you for watching till the end.”

Other fans have rushed to Hanmin’s defense. “It’s totally unacceptable for people to be putting so much hate into his comments, which is his actual personal online space,” one wrote.

“People need to stop expecting perfect people when watching reality shows. He didn’t handle it perfectly, but he’s not some evil malicious person,” another commented.
