One of Apple TV’s best shows just got renewed for Season 2
Apple TV+Idris Elba’s high-flying thriller Hijack has been renewed for a second season on Apple TV+, and the star has promised “high-octane” action in the sequel series.
Season 1 of Hijack was a huge hit for Apple TV+ last summer, launching in June, and immediately becoming one of the streamer’s most watched and acclaimed shows.
Revolving around a dramatic hijack during a flight from Dubai to London, the show currently carries a Rotten Tomatoes score of 88%, based on 67 critic reviews. While it also cracked the Nielsen Streaming Originals Top 10 list.
So it’s no surprise that Season 1 won’t be the end of the story, with Idris Elba returning as brilliant negotiator Sam Nelson in a forthcoming sequel series…
One of Apple TV’s best shows just got renewed for Season 2
Hijack has been renewed for a second season, with executive producer and star Idris Elba stating: “I was floored by the overwhelming audience response after season one. It’s top secret what new situation unfolds for Sam Nelson but I can assure you we will bring the high-octane back!”
Jay Hunt – Apple TV+’s creature director for Europe – added: “Global audiences were on tenterhooks watching Idris’s riveting performance in Hijack, and we’re thrilled to be working again with 60Forty and Idiotlamp on an equally compelling Season 2.”
What is Hijack about?
We don’t have any details for Season 2 yet, but this is the official Season 1 synopsis: “Told in real time, Hijack is a tense thriller that follows the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over a seven-hour flight, and as authorities on the ground scramble for answers.”
Created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith, the show starred Idris Elba as the negotiator charged with the task of talking the hijackers down, while the supporting cast featured Neil Maskell, Chritsine Adams, Ben Miles, Max Beesley, Archie Panjabi, and Eve Myles. Spaced alumni Julia Deakin and Kevin Eldon also made brief appearances.
As per Apple’s press release: “The second season of Hijack will be executive produced by Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta and Tom Nash at 60Forty Films, alongside executive producers Kay and Field Smith’s own production company Idiotlamp Productions. Field Smith also serves as lead director for the series.”
We’ve got no idea when Season 2 will launch, but we’ll post an update as-and-when we know. While all seven episodes of Season 1 are currently streaming on Apple TV+ worldwide.
