The Office’s funniest joke returns in Ryan Reynolds’ hilarious IF teaser
Paramount PicturesRyan Reynolds sits down with John Krasinski in a new behind-the-scenes teaser for IF – but there’s something different. “Hey, hats off to you for not seeing race.”
A Quiet Place is one of the highest-grossing R-rated movies of all time. He briefly played Mr Fantastic in Doctor Strange 2. He recently rounded out his tenure as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. However, try as he might, Krasinski will always be best known as Jim from The Office.
For nine seasons, he played Dunder Mufflin’s resident slacker and prankster, finding different ways to torture Dwight (Rainn Wilson) and falling head over heels for the receptionist, Pam (Jenna Fischer).
More than a decade after the sitcom came to an end, there’s still widespread demand for a reunion. While that’s not happening any time soon, Krasinski has brought back one of the show’s best jokes for a new promotional clip for IF.
“Asian Jim” returns in new IF teaser with Ryan Reynolds
In a new behind-the-scenes video to promote IF’s next trailer at the Super Bowl, Reynolds talks about the movie with Krasinski – only he doesn’t look anything like the star we know.
“You’re not John Krasinski, you’re Randall Park. John Krasinski is much shorter and less Asian than you are,” the Deadpool star says, before interrogating the man sitting next to him. Unfortunately for Reynolds, he gets everything right.
If you’ve not seen The Office, the clip will be completely baffling – and that’s a shame, because it’s one of the show’s funniest moments. In Season 9 Episode 3, ‘Jim’ sits down at his desk, and Dwight is immediately alarmed. “Who are you?” he asks. “I’m Jim, we’ve been working together for 12 years. Weird joke, Dwight,” he responds.
Dwight points out that Jim isn’t Asian. “You seriously never noticed? Hey, hats off to you for seeing race,” he says, raising Dwight’s hackles even more. But he’s left stupefied when Pam kisses him, and then he looks at the family photo on Jim’s desk – and this version of Jim is in the picture. Of course, it’s all just an incredibly elaborate practical joke.
“The Office finished more than 10 years ago, but the joke still lives,” one viewer commented. “Omg! Lmao! What an unexpected but welcome Office reference,” another wrote.
“Good committing to the bit. When I walk into that cinema, I want to see Randall Park onscreen for 2 hours,” a third commented. “Hands down There is no one bigger than Ryan Reynolds when it comes to marketing. Genius,” a fourth wrote.
IF hits cinemas on May 17, 2024. You can find out more about the movie here.
