Imaginary cast vote on who would win in Chauncey vs M3GAN fight
Universal Pictures/LionsgateIn an exclusive interview with Dexerto, Imaginary cast members DeWanda Wise, Taegen Burns, and Pyper Braun, as well as director Jeff Wadlow, vote for who they think would win in a Chauncey vs M3GAN fight.
If you’re a horror fan, chances are you’ve heard about Blumhouse’s next big movie, which introduces us to a new villain in the form of a supernatural bear called Chauncey.
Though its themes are different from the 2023 hit M3GAN, Imaginary serves up a fresh take on the terrifying toy subgenre and it’s got Jason Blum serving as producer – meaning there have been plenty of comparisons (and even talks of a potential crossover).
So, when Dexerto sat down with the cast and filmmaker of the upcoming flick, we of course took the opportunity to ask who would win in a fight: the AI dancing doll or the supernatural stuffed teddy bear.
Imaginary cast vote on who would win in Chauncey vs M3GAN fight
If a Chauncey vs M3GAN fight were to ever happen, cast members DeWanda Wise, Taegen Burns, and Pyper Braun, and director Jeff Wadlow, unanimously believe the Imaginary villain would win every time. Why? Because he’s got the power of imagination at his proverbial fingertips.
“Obviously, we have some similarities with M3GAN,” Jeff tells Dexerto. “They’re both Blumhouse movies, both movies about children, dealing with trauma, and making unlikely friendships with things that exist outside of the normal childhood experience.”
However, the filmmaker points out that the “big difference” is that Imaginary is a supernatural horror film whereas M3GAN is more of a sci-fi thriller. “If Chauncey and M3GAN went toe to toe, I don’t think it’s even a contest. I mean, Chauncey is a supernatural entity from a dark realm. He would destroy M3GAN in seconds – she wouldn’t stand a chance,” he says.
That being said, Jeff does agree that the AI doll would probably win in a dance-off.
As for the cast members, they’re in agreement that Chauncey would come out on top. DeWanda, who plays Jessica in Imaginary, tells us, “Here’s the simple truth: Chauncey [would win], because he ends up being the physical manifestation of something much larger.
“M3GAN’s literal, she is this doll that has come to life, but Chauncey could be anything. In the context of our story or any story, he could take any form. And that thing behind Chauncey, the world that the entity is trying to drag you into? I’m sorry M3GAN, but you don’t stand a chance girl.”
Although Taegen and Pyper – who portray Jessica’s stepchildren Taylor and Alice – are yet to see Gerard Johnstone’s killer doll movie, they also think Chauncey would win hands down. “I’m going to take Chauncey’s side on this one,” says Taegen, to which Pyper points out, “There’s an endless supply of imagination.”
Imaginary drops in cinemas on March 8 – until then, you can find all of the movies heading to streaming this month here.
