The 2009 Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried horror movie Jennifer’s Body became a cult classic in the genre that never got its sequel, but writer Diablo Cody isn’t giving up hope.

It was a good year for horror among hits like Orphan, The Haunting in Connecticut, Drag Me to Hell, and The Uninvited. But 2009 also gave way to some lesser popular horror movies that fans greatly enjoyed and are now classics. Besides Sorority Row, Jennifer’s Body is now an icon.

Set in an unremarkable small town called Devil’s Kettle, Anita “Needy” Lesnicki finds herself battling evil in the form of her best friend. Jennifer Check is the popular girl who gets sacrificed one night. But she survives due to a small virgin mishap and comes back fully possessed.

The movie wasn’t a box office hit by any means but joined the list of horror movies that are a must-watch. Despite it being almost 15 years later, writer Diablo Cody still wants the sequel.

A Jennifer’s Body sequel is possible

Jennifer’s Body writer is far from putting the movie behind her and reveals she is in dire need of a partner who will commit to her ideas – and has a lot of money.

Cody is currently promoting her upcoming movie Lisa Frankenstein. A unique twist on the beloved book and monster that has a goth teen in love with the undead and becomes a killer. Speaking to Bloody Disgusting, Cody revisited her love for Jennifer’s Body. She was asked if there’s still a possibility for a sequel installment or even a TV series.

“YES! I wanna do a sequel,” said Cody. “I am not done with Jennifer’s Body. I just need to find… I need to partner with people who believe it in as much as I do and that hasn’t really happened yet. I need someone to believe in it who has a billion dollars.”

In 2021, Megan Fox spoke with The Washington Post about the movie’s success among fans. She showed her love for the “iconic” story and revealed making a sequel wouldn’t be difficult.

“I don’t think it’s a hard movie to make a sequel to. I mean, they should make it into a TV series. That would be cool,” said the actor.

In retrospect, Cody’s original storyline does leave the door somewhat open for Needy and/or Jennifer to return. By the finale, Needy decides once and for all to kill Jennifer and try to save her boyfriend from getting eaten. She actually doesn’t succeed and tries again.

This time, she ambushes Jennifer in her bedroom and drives her box cutter into her heart. Jennifer dies and Needy is found by Jennifer’s mother. Needy goes to a prison/mental care facility where she has become a changed person prone to anger. But it’s also revealed that she has developed supernatural powers. Likely from one of her fights with Jennifer.

Jennifer’s Body has Needy escaping the facility and hitching a ride to Low Shoulder’s concert. She says it will be their last show. The movie ends with a montage of the band having fun in their hotel before an unknown figure ruthlessly murders them. As far as the movie goes, Needy is still alive and well as she’s seen on the security camera.
