Taylor Sheridan’s Landman: Release date, trailer, cast & more
ParamountTaylor Sheridan is still keeping Yellowstone fans well-fed with his upcoming series, Landman.
While Taylor Sheridan fans have taken a hit with Yellowstone’s early ending, there’s still plenty on the horizon. And not all of it has to do with the Dutton family, either.
While there are further Yellowstone spinoffs like 6666 and 2024 on the way, Sheridan’s latest series, Landman, will travel from Montana to Texas to explore the booming oil industry.
There’s already plenty of hype for the new Paramount series, so here’s what you need to know about the Landman release date, cast, plot, and more.
Landman release date
Landman will be released on November 17, 2024 on Paramount+.
The first two episodes will drop at the same time, with the rest of the 10-episode season arriving weekly every Sunday.
This means Sheridan will be competing against himself that month, since Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 also premieres in November 2024. Lioness Season 2 is also running at the same time, unofficially making November “Taylor Sheridan month”.
In the UK, Landman will arrive the next day, on November 18.
Is there a trailer?
The first trailer for Landman dropped on September 5, 2024. You can watch it for yourself below:
Very quickly, Taylor Sheridan establishes the stakes. Not only is money on the line ($3 billion a day, to be exact), but lives too. A fiery oil rig explosion kicks things off, and it soon becomes clear that Jon Hamm’s Monty Miller is something of a foil to Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris.
As the trailer teases, the show is set to be a struggle of power between the different figures attempting to make as much money as possible in the oil industry.
A second trailer dropped on October 28, 2024:
“Men die, oil companies don’t,” Tommy Norris says. In this town, the only thing that matters is the oil business, and everyone from the dreamers to the bankers are out to get a piece of the pie.
Landman plot
Based on the 2019 Boomtown podcast, Landman will be set in West Texas and follow the Norris family as they navigate the politics of the oil rig industry.
The show is based on the Boomtown podcast, an 11-part series that hit number one on the streaming charts. The podcast covered environmental issues and explored the 21st century Texas oil boom, which is the same thread the Landman TV show will follow.
The official synopsis for the Taylor Sheridan series is: “an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”
Though there’s not much detail about the characters yet, it’s clear that the on-screen Norris family will play a big role based on the casting.
What is a landman?
A landman is a member of an oil, gas, or energy source company who negotiates with landowners for the purpose of acquiring leases.
They might also perform other services, like researching records to work out mineral ownership, or interact with landowners directly on behalf of the company.
For instance, if an oil or gas company was seeking to explore for resources on a piece of land, the landman would interact with the landowner for them.
Who’s in the cast?
The Landman cast already has a few famous faces, including Billy Bob Thornton starring as Tommy Norris. He’s set to lead, and there are quite a few other big names, too.
Here’s the full Landman cast:
- Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris
- Demi Moore as Cami
- Jon Hamm as Monty Miller
- Ali Larter as Angela
- Robyn Lively as Ellie
- Michelle Randolph as Ainsley Norris
- Jacob Lofland as Cooper Norris
- Bart Johnson as Patrick Ramsey
- Michael Peña as TBC
In February 2024, Jon Hamm was added to the cast as Monty Miller. According to Variety, Miller is “a titan of the Texas oil industry who has a long personal and professional relationship with Tommy Norris (Thornton).”
Being a Taylor Sheridan venture, Yellowstone cast members will turn up, too. Michelle Randolph has stepped out of 1923 to play Ainsley Norris, Tommy’s daughter, while Jason Jackson (from Yellowstone and 1883), will be joining in an undisclosed role.
In May 2024, it was announced that Michael Peña would be joining the cast in an unknown role.
Where can I watch Landman?
Landman will be available to watch on Paramount+ when it arrives.
It’s likely that the series will be a streaming exclusive on Paramount+, the home of all Taylor Sheridan’s new TV shows. It’ll join the ranks of the Yellowstone spinoffs 1883 and 1923, as well as Sheridan’s non-Yellowstone projects, like Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King.
