Lover Stalker Killer’s “hero” shares amazing new health update
NetflixThe “real hero” of Lover Stalker Killer has shared an amazing health update after the Netflix documentary left viewers concerned.
At the start of 2024, Netflix expanded its true crime category with American Nightmare, which focused on the tragic case of Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn, while placing the Vallejo Police Department under scrutiny.
Now, focus has turned to Lover Stalker Killer, a new documentary centering on the twisted love triangle of Dave Kroupa, Cari Farver, and Liz Golyar – one that leads down a path of harassment, deception, and murder.
Among the various officers involved in the case, one has been branded a “true hero” – and he’s just shared an update with his fans.
Lover Stalker Killer’s “hero” shares amazing new health update
In Lover Stalker Killer, our soylent-drinking techspert Tony Kava reveals that he needed surgery on a brain tumor while working on the Cari Farver case – but he didn’t want to go ahead until it was solved. He’s since taken to social media to reveal that he’s had treatment and is doing fine.
Tony is introduced midway through the documentary, having been called upon by Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office investigators Ryan Avis and Jim Doty. As an expert hacker who specializes in cybersecurity and fighting crime, he works for the force’s IT department and was instrumental in solving the case of Cari Farver.
Immediately, the Special Deputy’s quirks won over viewers. When he first appears, he’s holding a collection of drinks, including soylent – a type of liquid meal replacement. “And then I’ve got coffee, which has caffeine in it, then I’ve got the remnants of the last coffee, which has caffeine in it,” he explains. When asked what soylent is, he replies, “It’s what nerds drink instead of eating. For the most part, I just drink two or three of these a day then eat some hummus.”
He later adds: “I don’t know if it’s clear but I’m also apparently on the spectrum.” As well as his endearing quirks, Ryan explains that since Tony’s a volunteer, he’s only paid “a dollar a year to help with digital forensics investigations.” But this doesn’t impact his strong work ethic – Tony grafted tirelessly to get to the bottom of Dave Kroupa’s cyberstalking, eventually uncovering enough evidence to prove that Liz Goylar was the perpetrator.
Demonstrating just how focused he was, Tony reveals that before he started working on the case, he was diagnosed with having a brain tumor. When things started to heat up with the investigation, the tumor grew, which meant he needed to get surgery. “I asked the question, ‘Is it going to impair my ability to do work?’ And the answer that I got was yes,” Tony explains. “So I said right away, ‘I’m not doing the surgery, not until this case is done.’”
And he did just that. Thanks to his hard work and that of the other detectives, Liz was eventually arrested for the murder of Cari and is currently serving a life imprisonment charge. Floods of viewers have taken to social media to share praise for Tony, with one writing on X: “Shout out to the IT guy who solved the Lover Stalker Killer case with a brain tumor.” Another commented on Reddit: “You are a real hero Tony!”
The tech expert has since taken to Reddit under the username karver75 to answer questions viewers have about the case, and he also shared an amazing health update after one asked: “Fantastic job by you and your colleagues Tony. The one thing that was left out was about your health. What an amazing thing to do to postpone your surgery and dedicate yourself to this case. How are you doing? Did you have the surgery? I pray you are well.”
Further confirming that he’s nothing short of a legend, he replied: “No surgery, radiation treatment seems to have done the trick, though I do try to blame every little thing I forget on the tumor (otherwise, what’s the point in having one?). Thanks for your concern!”
One person said in response: “Not OP but this is the update I was looking for when I saw you in this thread! Glad to know you’re doing well. You were amazing in the doc and I hope that you continue to be in good health.” Another commented: “I hope you continue to have good health going forward.”
Tony continues to promote good causes on his website and LinkedIn profile, urging those who watch Lover Stalker Killer and want to do something good in Cari’s name to donate to the Cari Farver Memorial Scholarship – if this is something you can and want to do, you can find the link here.
