A huge Madame Web spoiler has been confirmed
Comic Book’s Josh Wilding spoke to Madame Web director SJ Clarkson about the appearance of Ben and Mary Parker – and, as listed by IMDb, these characters will be portrayed by Adam Scott and Emma Roberts.
“Ben and Mary Parker I think is a great surprise for fans, so what’s your thought process in including them?” Wilding says, before asking if it’s a plot she’d like to revisit down the line.
Clarkson replies, “Madame Web was born in the Amazing Spider-Man comics. There isn’t a Madame Web comic yet, although I think there probably could be… I think it’s an homage and a nod of respect to where she’s come from.”
This is far from the first time we’ve seen these characters on screen, with Uncle Ben previously being portrayed by the late Cliff Robertson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. Elsewhere, Embeth Davidtz played Peter Parker’s mom Mary in Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man movies.
As for the actors playing them, Scott is known for his role as Ben Wyatt in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, as well as roles in Step Brothers and Severance. Roberts, meanwhile, is a certified scream queen, with roles in American Horror Story and Scream 4.
There has been much speculation about their casting, as well as questions about whether Uncle Ben and Mary would appear in the movie. However, their names and characters are both present on IMDb, with the new interview confirming they do make an appearance in Madame Web.
Twitter account AHSWeb shared the clip, writing: “We have officially gotten confirmation that Emma Roberts and Adam Scott will play Mary and Ben Parker! I audibly screamed from joy because I really thought Emma would be cut out of the movie.”
Madame Web swings its way into cinemas on February 14.
