Masters of the Air fans have insane theory about Sandra Wesgate

Masters of the Air fans continue to speculate about Sandra Wesgate, the subaltern whom Crosby met in Oxford – and they have a pretty wild theory about her true identity.

In Episode 6, Crosby was sent to Oxford for two reasons: to represent the 100th at a conference between the allied nations, and for some much-needed respite from the war after Bubbles was killed over Munster.

There, he met subaltern A.M. Wesgate, his roommate… who happened to be a woman. The pair walked around the city together, socializing and talking about each other’s experiences in the war – well, Crosby did, anyway.

And that’s the thing: even in Episode 7, she’s keeping all of her cards close to her chest. Fans have some sensible theories, like the possibility of her being a spy – but what if she’s someone way more important?

Masters of the Air fans think Sandra Wesgate could be royalty

On the Masters of the Air subreddit, u/Team_Ed wrote: “Was it just me or was the show hinting that Wesgate was Princess Elizabeth?”

Queen Elizabeth II was a subaltern during the Second World War, and as Redditor points out, Wesgate doesn’t look dissimilar to the late monarch when she was younger.

“She seemed to have a learned disdain for the posh British officer, who also seems to accept her as a class equal — which he certainly wouldn’t do just by her rank. He clearly knows she’s very posh,” they wrote, adding: “She’s secretive of her work, and is clearly much more important than her rank. She’s called to London, which is where the King and Queen were. Elizabeth was known to go incognito.”

The Redditor does admit that it’s highly unlikely it’s mean to be Princess Elizabeth, but “at the very least, I think the show is playing cute wanting you to think this is possible. To me, it’s pretty clearly an intentional red herring.”

Others believe she may be part of the Special Operations Executive (also the subject of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare), or working with Alan Turing’s codebreakers.

And, as one user pointed out, “Princess Elizabeth was well known to the public. She became the heir apparent in 1936 at 10 years old and the newsreels followed her through her childhood. Running around Oxford in uniform is not incognito as everyone would recognize her.”

“That is the BIGGEST reason against. 1000% the royalty would not send her to share a room with a random American soldier. Full stop,” another wrote.
