Fans can’t stop making MCU jokes about the new Beatles movies
Marvel/DisneySam Mendes will be directing a series of new movies about The Beatles, and the internet thinks the whole thing sounds a lot like the MCU.
Beatlemania is getting a second wave in the world of TV and movies, it seems. Thanks to the near eight-hour docuseries that saw Peter Jackson restore weeks worth of Beatles footage, his recent music video, and the 2023 Now and Then documentary, we’ve had plenty of intimate explorations of the world’s most famous band.
But clearly, that’s not enough. It’s just been announced that Sam Mendes will direct four new biopics tackling the lives of the Beatles, with each member getting their own solo movie. Not only that, but all four films will be released in 2027.
A collective of solo movies surrounding the famous figures sounds like an ambitious idea for sure, and fans have quickly pointed out that it sounds very similar to how Marvel operates.
Fans are making MCU jokes about the new Beatles movies
When Deadline reported that there would be four separate Beatles biopics releasing in the same year, fans quickly made jokes about how this mirrored the MCU.
The comments over on X quickly grew, joking that this could become a whole new cinematic universe in its own right.
“The Beatles Cinematic Universe is born,” said one comment. “What a beautiful day to be alive.”
“Which one do we see Spider-Man come into?” asked another user.
One even went so far as to rework Nick Fury’s monologue from the MCU’s first Avengers movie, writing: “There was an idea, John knows this, called the Beatles Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, to see if they could become something more. See if they could work together when we needed them to create the music that we never could.”
There’s still a long while to wait before these movies will ever see the light of day. Until then, given the band’s cultural impact, you can bet this quartet of biopics will probably end up seeing close to Marvel levels of hype.
