Mean Girls alumni had one condition for returning to movie musical

Two of Mean Girls’ most famous alumni have revealed their strict condition when it came to appearing in the new musical reboot.

It’s safe to say that 2004’s Mean Girls completely shifted the teen movie genre as it helped launch the careers of many young actors into A-list status.

The movie focused on a young transfer student named Cady as she had to deal with the harsh realities of being a teen girl in high school and all of the misery, backstabbing, and humor that comes with it.

Mean Girls was so popular that it spawned its own musical that launched in 2017, which was then turned into a movie in 2024, and now two of its most famous alumni have revealed their stipulation on returning for the reboot.

Mean Girls actors had one rule when returning for reboot

Tina Fey, who wrote the original Mean Girls’ movie that the musical was based on, played the part of math teacher Ms. Norbury in the original film, alongside her comedian friend Tim Meadows.

When asked if they would reprise their roles for the 2024 movie musical, both Fey and Meadows had one unwavering condition that the movie had to adhere to in order for the pair to come back.

“I am reprising my role as Ms. Norbury because we thought, well, teachers work for a long time. So it might make sense if Tim and I did it,” Fey explained to People magazine, “So I called Tim and I was like, ‘Will you do it? I’ll do it if you do it.’ And we said, ‘Yes, as long as we don’t have to sing.’”

Fey continued stating, “It was fun. It’s been nice to see Tim. One of us has aged — the other one of us is Tim Meadows! But it’s been really nice to get to work with Tim again.”

Fey and Meadows weren’t the only original Mean Girls stars to come back for the musical reboot as Lindsay Lohan, who played the main character Cady, can be seen as a judge in the Mathlete tournament, which is a nod to her role in the original film.
