Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani uses burner Reddit accounts to argue with fans
Marvel/Disney+Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani has revealed that she uses Reddit burner accounts to debate with fans online.
People are loving the newest MCU hero on the block. In this case, it’s Ms. Marvel, a high school girl from New Jersey who admires Captain Marvel and wants to follow in her footsteps, becoming a hero in her own right along the way.
While the show is based on a Marvel comic of the same name, a lot has been changed for the show, meaning that fans are still able to come up with theories about what would – and will – happen in the series.
And it turns out a certain someone is arguing with these theories on Reddit: Iman Vellani, the star of the show herself.
Iman Vellani argues with Ms. Marvel theories on Reddit
Vellani has been very vocal about her passion for the MCU, and is very immersed within the fandom. However, during an interview with talk show host Seth Myers, she stated that she probably took this passion further than anyone expected.
Vellani revealed that she has several burner accounts on Reddit, with which she debates theories with other Ms. Marvel fans.
“I’m not present on social media publicly, but I do have a lot of private accounts, especially on Reddit. Just, like, arguing with people about theories, I’m like ‘You don’t even know what’s coming, man! You’re so wrong!’ It’s so liberating,” she said.
While this reveal is humorously surprising, it does make sense. Vellani clearly enjoys taking part in the MCU fandom, but as the star of a show, she likely isn’t allowed to blatantly involve herself in fandom the way that regular people can – hence the secret accounts.
Though the star does also partake in Reddit publicly, as she recently did a Reddit AMA with the Ms. Marvel fans, where she answered as truthfully as she could within the parameters of the PR department for Marvel.
And according to Vellani, being the star of Ms. Marvel clues her into secrets and theories that have her just as excited as those watching at home.
“They sent me, and only me, the draft [of the final episode], and I immediately freaked out,” Vellani shared with Myers.
“I emailed Kevin Feige in all caps. I was like, ‘Are you doing this like for real? Are you sure? I’m so honored!’ I was like yelling at him through an email. I was freaking out. This is the biggest deal in the world, and the fact that it’s happening in our show is crazy.”
